You can practice and memorize your answers to common interview questions all you want, but sometimes, interviewers like to throw in a few curveball questions to see how well you respond in unexpected situations. While there isn’t a set formula for answering off-the-wall interview questions, the great news is that you get to show off your creativity and your ability to think on your feet.
We spoke to employees who have interviewed at multiple companies — from big consulting firms like McKinsey to growing startups like Kamcord in California, collecting the interview questions that would have us saying, “Sorry, could you repeat that?”
See if you can answer any of the questions below. Keep in mind that these are just for fun – so don’t stress about your answer!
1. If someone hated you, what would they say about you?
2. What song would you play at your funeral?
3. If you could play a golf game as a foursome, who would the other three people be?
4. A man pushed his car to a hotel and lost his fortune. What happened?
5. How lucky are you?
6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
7. If you were a sandwich, what part would you be?
8. There are two ropes, each rope takes 1 hour to burn, but either rope has different densities at different points, so there’s no guarantee of consistency in the time it takes different sections within the rope to burn. How do you use these two ropes to measure 45 minutes?
We’re still scratching our heads at a few of these. If you’ve had to answer a few off-the-wall interview questions, add them in the comments section below!
