5 Foods to Eat Before Your Interview

Interviews are nerve-wracking, we know. You want to make sure you do as well as possible so that you get an offer. In addition to studying hard, practicing answers to common questions and preparing a few questions for your interviewer, you have a few natural weapons at your disposal: foods! Here are 5 great pre-interview foods that will get you ready for the big day.

Oatmeal

Did you know that oatmeal reduces stress and helps you sleep better? Its carbohydrates trigger the release of serotonin, a chemical that puts you in a calmer state, while its oats contain melatonin, a hormone that puts you to sleep. Who knew?! Have a bowl of oatmeal the night before your interview to make sure you’re well-rested and relaxed.


Avocados

Great news for avocado lovers! According to an October 2012 issue of “Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology,” the monounsaturated fats in avocados actually safeguard the very nerve cells in the brain responsible for transmitting information. Avocados also contain Vitamin B complex, which makes you more alert, so whether you’re cramming to prepare the night before or not, avocados are here to the rescue.


Walnuts

A 2011 study by the British Journal of Nutrition shows that walnuts have the ability to increase inferential reasoning, which is vital to critical thinking skills. Walnuts are great whether you’re preparing to solve a few case studies for a consulting interview or just ramping up to tackle any of the hard interview questions that may come your way.


Greek Yogurt

Want to go into your interview in a good mood? The protein in greek yogurt actually increases the levels of neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine in your brain that help to boost your mood! Showing off your positive energy during your interview can be a great way to show the company that you’ll bring a great attitude to the work environment.


Blueberries

An article in Scientific American titled “Your Brain on Blueberries” states that blueberries contain flavonoids, which may “improve memory, learning and general cognitive function, including reasoning skills, decision making, verbal comprehension and numerical ability.” Talk about packing a punch!
