Now that the holidays are behind us and January is in full swing, we wanted to share seven things that every college student should do this year according to WayUp’s CEO and Co-Founder, Liz Wessel.
These seven things will help you learn about yourself, make lifelong connections, advance your career, and, have fun while doing it!
Want a quick recap of Liz’s tips? Read on below, or watch Liz’s TED Talk here:
1. Send at least one cold email.
Try emailing one of your role models, or someone in an industry that you want to learn more about. Make sure to include in your first line that you’re a college student!
2. Befriend five people you would “bet on.”
You’re surrounded by thousands of brilliant minds at college. Take advantage of this, and make lasting connections during your time on campus.
3. Take a class that teaches a practical skill.
Taking one “practical skill” class (such as computer science, writing, negotiation, etc.) will help you tremendously when you start working full-time.
4. Start something.
Start a club, a business, a blog…anything! It’s an excellent opportunity to get experience with project management.
5. Find “the” professor.
Go out there and find the professor who will change your life or make a class truly unforgettable.
6. Go on an adventure.
Travel. It is a great opportunity to figure out where your comfort zone is (and, there’s no such thing as spring or summer break after college!)
7. Get work experience.
This is the time where you should figure out what you love doing, and what you hate doing. What you are good at, and what you are bad at.
The bottom line? Don’t be afraid to try new experiences in 2018!
