6 Jobs You Wouldn’t Expect to Find at Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin helps keep our country and our men and women in uniform safe. Doing that requires a whole lot of people in a whole lot of roles—including some you wouldn’t expect to find at an aerospace and defense company.

Read on for six of those roles, plus the college majors that’ll make you a great fit for the job.

1. Communications Representative
At Lockheed Martin, engineers can get pretty technical when they describe the complexities of their job. Communications representatives help develop strategies to shape complex topics and share them with internal and external audiences in engaging and simple terms. That means, you’ll play a huge role in helping Lockheed Martin gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.

Related Majors: English, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations. Experience in defense, manufacturing, and technology also helps.

2. Financial Analyst Associate
You’ll work with customers around the world, from the Department of Defense to commercial industries, to make sure their work with Lockheed Martin goes smoothly. Your responsibilities will include financial reporting, financial analysis, and presenting financial data to stakeholders. You’ll likely collaborate on finance-related projects with other internal teams at Lockheed Martin, too.

Related Majors: Finance, Accounting, Business

3. Environmental Safety and Health Engineer
You’ll monitor pollution-prevention activities at Lockheed Martin—like supporting the operation and maintenance of ground support equipment. You’ll also ensure employees understand how to stay safe as they build the world’s most innovative technological solutions. In this role, you’ll need to understand Federal, State, local and military environmental regulations and be able to prepare and review technical documents and procedures to ensure all equipment is operated properly and compliant with environmental requirements.

Related Majors: Environmental Health and Safety, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Systems Engineering

4. Energy Storage Intern
Lockheed Martin’s energy storage team develops energy storage technologies to help harness the power of renewable energy and reduce energy costs. You’ll work with research scientists and engineers to develop and test all aspects of Lockheed Martin’s technology. To do this, you’ll work in both a wet chemical lab environment and a fabrication and prototyping shop. Throughout the internship, you’ll plan experiments, set up and de-bug instruments, collect and analyze data, and report results to your team. You’ll also support engineering staff in the design, part procurement, build, and operation of automated test equipment.

Related Majors: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering degree program (and research in chemistry, electrochemistry, or materials science)

5. Intelligence Analyst
Intelligence analysts are some of the most thorough researchers out there. In this role, you will be tasked with finding out as much as possible about the subject assigned to you. Collecting this information can take many forms: fieldwork and interviewing, location searches, and computer research to compliment your work in the field. Once you’ve completed your research, you’ll compile it into a report and verbally communicate your findings in a three to five minute brief so teams at Lockheed Martin can take action. It’s your job to perform data analysis and threat assessments, and ensure your company knows how to respond properly to any threats.

Related Majors: Political Science, History, Geography, Criminal Justice, International Law, International Studies, English, Foreign Languages, Communications, Psychology

6. Lab and Tech Service Systems Engineer
Working for this innovative organization within Lockheed Martin, you’ll support simulation and system integration labs by designing, developing, and integrating models (like aircraft weapons, sensors, and environment and threat models) or real-time simulation and infrastructure software. The products you’ll support will advance weapon systems development, assist pilots, evaluate aircraft control laws and improve the effectiveness of missions.

Related Majors: Systems Engineering (or a related engineering program), Computer Science
