What if we told you there was a city that actually had it all? Now, what if we told you that city probably isn’t on your current list of top places to work? We’re talking about Denver, Colorado. To get all the details about what makes Denver great, we talked to Jasmine Prasetyo, University of Colorado Boulder grad and Recruiting Coordinator at OppenheimerFunds. Read on, and don’t be surprised if you suddenly feel compelled to buy a one-way ticket to Denver.
Culturally, Denver has many of the things a larger city like San Francisco or New York has to offer, says Jasmine. But it also has one big advantage: you can head to the mountains whenever you want. Skiing, snowboarding, hiking and biking are all just a short trip away, and you don’t even need a car to some of the top outdoor destinations—Denver has “ski buses” that specifically travel from the city to the slopes.

This one isn’t so surprising, considering how much time Denver residents spend outdoors. No matter what sport or activity you love, you’re bound to be in good company here. In fact, OppenheimerFunds’ Denver office is surrounded by running and biking trails, and there are even bikes available to rent. Jasmine says it’s pretty common to find coworkers running together before work, after work and during lunch.
Denver has eight professional sports teams spanning football, soccer, baseball, hockey and basketball, which means you can root for the home team all year ‘round. But sports aren’t the only things going on at arenas in Denver. You can also catch concerts around the city, and at the amazing open-air Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, which was rated “America’s Best Outdoor Amphitheatre” by Rolling Stone. It’s just 15 miles outside of the city.

A lot of us associate Colorado with snow, snow and… more snow. And while it certainly snows there, Jasmine made it clear that Denver also has plenty of sunshine—which is why it never takes long for that snow to start melting.
Zagat named Denver #3 on its list of “The 26 Hottest Food Cities” last year. The city also has the second largest amount of breweries and microbreweries per capita than any other state—72 of them as of last year, in fact. Translation: if you’re a foodie, this is the city for you.
Budgeting while living in a city is tough, especially when you’re just starting your career. Did you know that, it’s 41 percent less expensive to live in Denver than in New York City? That means you’ll have room in your budget for those sporting events, concerts and dinners out.
Suddenly planning a move to Denver? You’re in luck—OppenheimerFunds is hiring now. See if your future career is waiting for you in Denver (or one of their other office locations).
