Recently, we teamed up with former OppenheimerFunds interns who shared what it’s like to work for the global asset management firm. Today’s post is from Pratima Sherkane, a computer science masters student at University of Colorado Boulder. Last summer, Pratima was a Data Management Analyst intern in OppenheimerFunds’ Denver office. Here’s what she had to say about her experience.
Last summer, I contributed to real-world projects that were both meaningful to me and impactful for the company. It’s given me an understanding of what OppenheimerFunds stands for, and where the company is going in the future.
I’ve been given exposure to some great, intelligent people who mentored me and helped me network. I got a chance to talk to company leaders and team members from different business areas across the organization. Those conversations helped me understand not just the type of work they do, but how that work connects to what I do and the impact it has on the organization as a whole.
Beyond this, our intern group came from a diverse range of backgrounds, which gave us an opportunity to share our experiences and look at things from different perspectives. Because of that, we were able to build relationships with one another that will last well beyond our internships.
The best advice I have for future OppenheimerFunds interns is to be open-minded and always be ready to learn and adapt. And in between work, be sure to socialize and get involved in different groups, programs, and recreational activities because there are so many to take advantage of. If you do that, you’ll get a whole lot out of your internship and make lasting memories in the process.
