Rounding Out Your Life in 2015

What defines a well-rounded individual? That is entirely up for debate. Some say being well rounded means being involved in your community, present in your family life and rocking a solid 9 – 5 to pay the bills. That all sounds pretty great to most of us. With the kick off of a new year, we are all looking for ways to improve our lives and become more well-rounded individuals. From a collegiate perspective, most of us are just looking to make it to class at 8:00 AM, arrive to work on time, and maybe snag some pizza at the end of the night. All of the hustle and bustle in our lives can leave us wanting more at the end of the day, or only wanting your bed.

In my case, I end my day evaluating what I have done, what I should have done, and perhaps what I can do better tomorrow. To those who share this same thought process, I have a few tips and tricks I have learned a long the way. Words of wisdom from community leaders, business professionals, and yes, even my mother, have helped immensely in rounding out some of the rough edges in my life. Keep in mind that it is completely okay to accept advice. It will not make you less of an individual. We are all here on Earth to learn, grow, and be the best people we can be.

Here are a few ways that you can round out your edges in 2015:

Seek out a Mentor

Mentors are great for helping you through your tough collegiate years. They have the experience, connections, and knowledge that you need to apply to your own pathway for success. Keep in mind, you mentors can change throughout your life. It is common to have a handful through your lifetime to help you through your educational and professional years.

Get Involved with a Local Non-Profit

Volunteering and donating your time to a great cause will really rev up your resume. Not only that, it will help you appreciate your community. Introduce yourself to some community leaders and others that share your common interests. You will find yourself feeling at home in your community, wherever you end up. It is also a great feeling knowing you have the ability to change the world in some way, no matter how small.

Find Your Passion

This feat is one that isn’t exactly set step by step. Passion cannot necessarily be found on the shelves of your local supermarket or in a lovely box at Target. You find your passion when you least expect it, and you find it in something you may not even have originally thought of. That is all for you to discover.
