Whether you were making a new signature scent or dissecting a pig, lab day in science class was always exciting. Now remember that feeling, enter the real world and say hello to Thermo Fisher Scientific. Thermo Fisher Scientific is a multi-billion dollar company whose business is bringing that science class to life. From genetic testing to food chemistry examination, they are providing science that makes a real difference in the world.
Now meet Lauren Miller, a scientist in the Research and Development group of Thermo Fisher. After graduating from Boston University in 2014, her goal was to make the world a healthier place, and after interning at Thermo Fisher Scientific she knew that was where she wanted to begin her full-time career. Here’s why she thinks everyone, regardless of their major, should consider starting their career with Thermo Fisher Scientific.
You do real work
Lauren expected her first job as a scientist to consist of cleaning bleekers and running machines. However, at Thermo Fisher she’s been given real work from the get-go and has been thrown right into the thick of it. She even got the chance to travel to Scotland to help a customer on site on the company’s dime.
You are changing the world
Thermo Fisher is trying to change the world for the better through science. By joining their team, you can be rest assured that your work will be put towards the greater good. As Lauren said, “it’s very exciting to see something go from the lab bench to real solution. It’s an amazing feeling.”
The company will help you figure out what you want to do
Since Thermo Fisher is such a large company, there truly is a spot for everyone. Thermo Fisher realizes that not everyone graduates from college knowing exactly what they want to do, so they’ll support you in figuring it out. Lauren shares, “especially if you don’t quite know what you want to do, [Thermo Fisher Scientific] is a great place to start. It’s a huge corporation and there’s a place for everyone.”
