From Hackathons to Duck Tours: 5 Reasons TripAdvisor’s Engineering Interns Have the Best Job in Town

We’ve gotta admit. When we first saw TripAdvisor’s Boston HQ, we were a little bit jealous. We even considered trying to convince their hiring team we were still in school just for the chance to intern there for a few months. We couldn’t help it. The temptation of lunch from a new country or origin every day was calling our names. Ultimately, we decided it was better to tell you why TripAdvisor is an amazing place to intern so you can apply. Sure, you’ll probably end up making us even more jealous, but we can handle it. We promise. Here are the top five reasons TripAdvisor engineering interns love what they do:

  1. No Busy Work in Sight

Think you’ll spend the summer filing paperwork and filling coffee orders? Not a chance, TripAdvisor interns get to ship real features, just like full-time team members. That means your work will reach hundreds of millions of people. Whoa.

  1. The Friendliest Competition in Town

Each year, over 70 interns from dozens of universities team up and tap into their creative sides for the TripAdvisor hackathon. Oh, and they get the chance to pitch their ideas to top execs. At a global company. For a dose of inspiration, check out last year’s hackathon projects here.

  1. A Super Supportive Team

We’ll let former Software Engineering Intern Greg H. do the talking for this one. He said, “I thought my experience at Trip was extremely unique, and only happened because of the people I worked with.” Thanks, Greg! Engineering interns at TripAdvisor work one-on-one with a mentor during their summer with the company. Hear from more happy interns here.

  1. A Community Connection

While the company is built around travel, it’s also in TripAdvisor’s DNA to give back to the communities where employees live and work. That’s why every intern class spends a day volunteering at a local organization.

  1. The Chance to Be a Boston Tourist

New to Boston? Great!  With last year’s Summer intern class hailing from 60 universities, TripAdvisor made sure they were well acquainted with Beantown by the end of the season. Each year, interns get to explore the city’s landmarks on a scavenger hunt, and participate in another tradition that’s uniquely Boston: a duck tour.
