    JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS:

    Boeing is currently seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our International Space Station team located in Houston, TX. This role is an exciting opportunity to work closely with NASA safety and engineering personnel on the ISS Sustaining Engineering contract for ensuring the safe operations of ISS critical systems.

    Perform engineering assessments and analyses for the International Space Station (ISS), Commercial Vehicles (manned and unmanned) payloads and experiments that are flown on International vehicles (e.g. Progress or Soyuz) or commercial vehicles (e.g. SpaceX, CST-100, HTV-X, Axiom, Dream Chaser)

    • Identify and quantify safety risks

    • Assure compliance with all NASA safety requirements

    • Provide detailed hazard reports and recommendations for risk mitigation strategies

    • Prepare and present technical presentations to NASA and Boeing Safety boards and panels

    • Participate in customer Safety Panel Reviews

    • Review flight documents, operational scenarios, and subsequent changes for safety impacts

    • Participate in technical interchange meeting and working group meetings, as required

    • Provide post-flight engineering support for flight anomaly investigations

    • Work with NASA, Space Station contractors, and International Partners

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with our Safety cross-functional team on risk-based hazard analyses at a system level, identify appropriate control and mitigation strategies, write and flow down safety requirements.

    • Review system vehicle-level and ISS concept of operations, system architecture, and system design from a safety perspective, and collaborate on software, hardware, and operations systems designs to enhance the system safety to meet NASA requirements.

    • Perform safety analyses, develop and maintain safety documentation, and support safety panel reviews for International Space Station (ISS) Payloads and Systems Integration.

    • Collaborate with reliability engineers to produce complete and accurate reliability assessments, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEAs)

    • Develop test plans to verify safety requirements and validate fault handling capabilities

    • Collaborate with subsystem engineers to flow safety requirements to suppliers and oversee compliance

    • Collaborate with NASA subject matter experts to ensure hazard analyses, safety requirements, and fault management strategy meet NASA contract requirements

    • Prepare safety reports for NASA, including Integrated Hazard Reports, Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs), Verification Tracking reports and Operating and Support Hazard Analysis

    • Participate in Safety Reviews to describe and explain rigorous safety approach to the satisfaction of internal and external review boards

    • Exhibit moral and interpersonal courage to speak up when safety deficiencies are identified

    This position has the option of being hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

    This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

    This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILL/EXPERIENCE):

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics

    TYPICAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

    RELOCATION:

    Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.

    Summary pay range:$73,100 - $98,900
