Job Description Qualifications:
The Boeing Company is looking for an Entry Level Wind Tunnel Model Stress Engineer to join our team in Tukwila, WA.
The Aerodynamic Testing capability within Boeing Test & Evaluation provides low speed, transonic, and supersonic wind tunnel testing capabilities for all Boeing products at various Boeing sites.
The ideal candidate will have good writing and documentation skills, project management skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Position Responsibilities:
Work with a team of designers to verify the structural integrity of aerodynamic, noise, and propulsion wind tunnel models, support hardware, full scale ground test, and full scale flight test structures.
Prepare structural integrity reports for experimental hardware testing in Boeing and outside facilities.
Review structural integrity reports of outside companies testing in Boeing facilities.
Develop and maintain a suite of stress automation tools using Excel spreadsheets and Common Structures Workstation (CSW) for typical stress analysis problems like bolted joints and section analysis.
Use finite element techniques to analyze more complex problems.
Use of fatigue and fracture mechanics techniques to determine expected cycle life of hardware and test equipment.
Analyze, setup, monitor and post process tests using structural health monitoring tools such as balance and model safety of flight.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry by the end of June 2023
Experience and/or education in mechanical stress and structural analysis
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in the use of computer aided design and simulation tools.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience in stress analysis/structural analysis
Experience in machine shop processes, geometric dimensioning & tolerances, and machining capabilities of different types of materials.
Experience using CAD and finite element analysis software
Experience with modeling solid objects in a computer-aided design tool such as CATIA and ABAQUS
Experience working with mechanical design engineers
Experience with project management and self-managing projects
Experience with Matlab and/or Lab View
Experience with wind tunnel testing
Experience with data analysis
Have or have held an active U.S. Security Clearance in the past 24 months
