    Barclays has developed a robust, global sanctions compliance control framework to manage the legal, regulatory and reputational risks associated with economic sanctions.   

    What will you be doing 

    The role-holder will primarily support the overall management of sanctions risk for the aligned Business by providing guidance and input to the Business and ensuring internal standards and risk appetite are met.  The role-holder will need to effectively manage a number of stakeholders at varying levels to achieve this.  

    The role-holder will report to the Americas Head of Sanctions & ABC and be part of the wider ABC and Sanctions team within the Americas region. On a day-to-day basis, the role-holder will be involved in the following tasks and responsibilities:  

    • Provide timely and balanced advice on U.S., U.K., U.N., and E.U. sanctions requirements and Barclays Financial Crime Policy and associated Sanctions Standards to the Business.  Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the law and practice of those jurisdictions’ sanctions regimes, as well as financial industry implementation practices.
    • Take a leading role in U.S. regulatory requirements pertaining to OFAC compliance, including U.S. examinations.
    • Support OFAC-related filings, including voluntary self-disclosures, as well as blocks and rejects.
    • Maintains a detailed knowledge and understanding of the sanctions control framework and drives effective oversight over it by a variety of means including, review of management information and attendance at Business-aligned Financial Crime Reporting Forum.  
    • Manage and support sanctions-related audit and assurance reviews and drive timely remediation of issues.
    • Take a leading role in global sanctions projects, including investigations and enhancements to systems/processes and procedures.
    • Review and maintain training and awareness programs for stakeholders.
    • Ensuring reliable, accurate and timely production of sanctions -related management information and key risk indicators for the region.

    Skills that will help you in your role 

    • 10+ years’ experience working with OFAC, HMT, EU, UN, and other jurisdictional sanctions laws, regulators, regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
    • 3+ years working at a large complex institution with global sanctions policies, law firm, or U.S. government agency.  
    • 3+ years’ experience in designing and implementing financial crime policies and procedures.  
    • 2+ years demonstrating strong leadership and operational management skills.
    • Prior experience working in the financial industry, which provided exposure to banking and securities operations, so that the individual can contribute to and support business decision-making. 
    • Prior experience conducting and managing risk assessments.
    • Sound understanding of sanctions screening and program oversight.
    • Experience of working within a highly regulated environment along with a good grasp of the current environment and key issue within financial services.
    • A proven track record in implementing global sanctions policies and procedures. 
    • Strong advisory skills with the ability to consistently make sound decisions through a combination of analysis, business acumen, and judgment.
    • Excellent written and spoken communications skills.
    • Good understanding of the dynamics of large, complex organizations and matrix working.
    • Prior experience working at a large complex institution with a global sanctions program.
    • Prior work experience with exposure to banking and securities operations, so that the individual can contribute to and support business decision-making. 
    • Experience working within a highly regulated environment along with a good grasp of the current environment and key issue within financial services.
    • Strong advisory skills with the ability to consistently make sound decisions through a combination of analysis, business acumen, and judgment.
    • Understanding of the requirements of risk management in a financial institution.
    • Previous experience as a regulator or experience representing the financial services industry in other contexts, e.g., law firm.
