BACK-END ENGINEER (RFT)

As a Barclays Back-End Engineer you’ll be the brains behind the design, installation, testing and maintenance of existing and new systems. This is more than playing around with code; you will be playing a critical role in finding innovative solutions to complex problems, for our clients and customers daily. You’ll develop a solid understanding of the global markets and finance and make an impact right away.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. We’re flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. We also have a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances

WHAT WILL YOU  BE DOING?

•     Diving into server-side application logic and working on integration with front-end 

•     Designing and developing resilient and scalable solutions for any of the hybrid environments (Private cloud - Open Shift, Public cloud - AWS, Azure)

•     Building microservices and APIs using REST/GraphQL

•     Using containerization technologies like Docker

•     Working with a technology stack which can include any of these: Java, Spring Boot, Python, Django, C#, C++, .Net, Nodejs, Go

•     Working with Relational Databases like Postgres/Oracle. NoSql databases or MongoDB/DynamoDB

•     Using test-driven development to write top quality and well tested code by implementing automated tests

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

•     BS/BA/Master’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science or engineering

SKILLS THAT WILL HELP YOU IN THE ROLE:

•     A computer science major (preferred)

•     Demonstrated skill and interest in programming languages, development tools, algorithms, systems design, and architecture
