    The Biochip R&D intern is responsible for assessing optimizations to assay design. The candidate will work cross-functionally with and learn from Bioinformatics, Engineering, and other groups to design, define, and test various aspects of the assay.

    This position is part of the Biochip Assay R&D group and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA (on-site). At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

    In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

    • Understand the project scope and become familiar with the GeneXpert Biochip systems.
    • Gain practical experience in microbiological techniques to support research and development projects.
    • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through hands-on analytical work.
    • Work alongside experienced scientists and professionals, gaining mentorship and guidance.

    The essential requirements of the job include:

    • Pursing an undergraduate or Masters degree in biology, chemistry or related fields
    • Basic molecular biology techniques: nucleic acid extraction and qPCR (required)
    • Microbiology research experiences in academic or industry setting (preferred)
    • Familiarity with MS Excel for data analysis (preferred)
    • Basic knowledge about genomic and bioinformatics tools (preferred)

    Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

    • As part of Cepheid's Biosafety and Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan, any associate who will be working with biohazardous materials or those who are required to work where others are using biohazardous materials, will be required to show proof of Hepatitis B Vaccination and take a biosafety training.
    • For associates who are not vaccinated but are willing to be, Cepheid will schedule the vaccination with our occupational health clinic before the intern goes into the lab.
    • No travel required aside from traveling to Sunnyvale campus

    The hourly rate for this role is $30. This is the rate that we in good faith believe is the rate of compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
