    Job Summary

    We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cytotechnologist to join our pathology team. This role ensures high-quality, accurate testing and result reporting in cytology by performing microscopic evaluations of gynecological (GYN) and non-gynecological (Non-GYN) specimens. The primary focus will be on Liquid-Based Pap tests and a wide variety of non-gynecological specimens such as thyroid, pancreas, and lymph node fine needle aspirations (FNAs). This position prioritizes quality over quantity, with direct access to Cytopathologists for case discussions.

    Our department is currently expanding, with a new Pathology/Cytology lab under development, which will be approximately 60% larger than the current space. The new lab will include dedicated offices for Cytotechnologists located near the specimen processing area for improved workflow and efficiency.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Microscopic Examination: Analyze Liquid-Based Pap smears and a wide variety of Non-GYN specimens, including FNAs of thyroid, pancreas, and lymph nodes.
    • Quality Control & Assurance: Ensure high-quality CytoDiagnostics through statistical monitoring, direct observations by Pathologists, and procedural audits.
    • Specimen Management: Assess and determine if a specimen requires re-preparation, advising Lab Assistants as necessary.
    • Supervisory & Leadership Duties:
      • Provide guidance and education to Lab Assistants and other staff.
      • Oversee equipment and reagent maintenance, ensuring proper usage and upkeep.
      • Develop, write, and review processing procedures to enhance departmental efficiency.
      • Participate in departmental inspections and ensure compliance with regulations.
      • Foster a positive team environment through collaboration and mentorship.

    Required Qualifications

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Cytology, General Science, or a related Biological Science.
    • Successful completion of an Accredited Cytotechnology Program.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Cytotechnologist in a pathology-directed lab.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role within a laboratory setting.
    • Extensive knowledge of gynecological and non-gynecological cytology, including FNAs of thyroid, pancreas, and lymph nodes.
    • Proven documentation of passing the annual Pap Proficiency Test (PAP PT).

    Certifications:

    • Certification in Cytotechnology by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology).
