Occupational Health Nurse
Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, is located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC. **Job Summary: **The occupational health nurse will be a member of a diverse Environmental Safety and Health group responsible for ensuring a safe and health workplace. The position includes challenging opportunities for an experienced nurse across a range of occupational health services related to assessing, treating, and preventing occupational illness and injuries. Duties: 1. Conduct occupational physical exams including prescreening tests (e.g., pulmonary function testing, EKG, vision screening, blood pressure, audiometric testing). (25%) 2. Perform initial medical assessments, treatments, and follow-up for occupational injuries and illnesses and guide staff to seek proper attention for non-work related medical issues. (20%) 3. Actively manage Workers Compensation cases (20%) 4. Assist with management of an internal influenza vaccination program, an allergy/immunization program, and other wellness activities and initiatives. (15%) 5. Administer occupational surveillance programs for staff working with specific chemical, biological, or radiological materials. (10%) 6. Audit internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure alignment with Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Maryland Board of Nursing, and AAOHN standards. (5%) 7. Assist with other Environmental Safety and Health efforts as needed. (5%) Note: This job summary and listing of duties is for the purpose of describing the position and its essential functions at time of hire and may change over time. **Required Qualifications: ** * Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent relevant degree. * Minimum of three years of experience in an occupational or public health setting, ER, or ICU. * Ability to work independently without direct oversight of an occupational physician * Ability to conduct prescreening tests including pulmonary function testing, EKG, vision screening, blood pressure, audiometric testing * Phlebotomy skills * Current CPR Certification * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Demonstrated ability to function as part of a team * Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision Desired Qualifications: * Experience managing Workers Compensation cases * Familiarity with occupational exposures * Certified CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor * CAOHC and/or NIOSH Certification credentials * Experience conducting ergonomic evaluations Benefits: APL offers a comprehensive benefits package including a liberal vacation plan, a matching retirement program, significant educational assistance, a scholarship tuition program for staff with dependents, and competitive salaries commensurate with skills and experience.
