Lighthouse Lab Services has partnered with a well-established independent reference laboratory located in Houston, TX. This lab is looking for a director of lab operations to ensure the laboratory functions smoothly on a day-to day basis.
Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the CEO, the lab operations director will help the laboratory execute quality-centric goals and objectives while maintaining regulatory compliance for a CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited lab. The role will involve improving overall quality and serving as a coach for operational leadership in the creation and implementation of processes, policies, and procedures. Cell culture experience is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and safety programs in compliance with all regulatory standards.
Review and update all QC, QA, and safety documentation, policies, and procedures annually.
Review personnel files annually for accreditation, state/local licensure, and certification compliance, including educational requirements, resumes, certifications, licensure, continuing education, competency, training, director delegations, health and safety, and overall compliance.
Participate in department budget preparation as directed, annually.
Review QC/QA data submitted by departments and prepare report summaries as requested by the Lab Director.
Evaluate the validity of results through the review of QC/QA documentation.
Perform new method validations and implement new testing methods and/or instruments for the testing site.
Be accessible to testing personnel at all times, offering on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems according to lab policies and procedures.
Work closely with the Lab Manager and senior/executive leadership.
Assist with lean projects throughout the laboratory to improve processes and ensure quality patient care is delivered efficiently and cost-effectively.
Perform various additional duties as required by the Lab Director and CEO.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Science or related subject, or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification (or equivalent) with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or an acceptable equivalent.
Quality Assurance certifications preferred (ASQ, CMQ, etc.).
Previous laboratory management experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with lean process improvements.
Strong knowledge of CLIA and CAP accreditation requirements.
Proven ability to mentor and guide operational leadership in quality initiatives.
