  • Responsibilities

    Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Histotechnologist to join a clinical laboratory in Norfolk, VA. This position requires working the night shift, providing essential laboratory services to support diagnostic processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination, ensuring high-quality results that aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Receive, accession, and process tissue specimens for histological examination.
    • Embed tissue samples in paraffin, section them using microtomes, and prepare slides for microscopic analysis.
    • Perform routine and special staining techniques to highlight tissue structures and cellular components.
    • Operate and maintain histology equipment, ensuring proper calibration and function.
    • Maintain accurate records of all samples processed and results obtained.
    • Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare providers to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses.
    • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulations.
    • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to maintain high standards of laboratory practice.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
    • Assist in the training and mentorship of new staff and students.

    Qualifications:

    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
    • Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical histology laboratory.
    • Strong knowledge of histological techniques and laboratory practices.
    • Proficiency in the use of histology equipment and computer systems.
    • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work the night shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM).

    Benefits:

    • $23-34/hour depending on experience
