    Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Technologist to join the transfusion services department at a clinical laboratory in Norfolk, VA. This position requires working the day shift, providing critical laboratory services to support patient care. The successful candidate will play a key role in performing blood bank and transfusion-related tests and ensuring accurate and timely results to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform routine and specialized blood bank testing, including blood typing, antibody screening, crossmatching, and compatibility testing.
    • Prepare blood components for transfusion, including red blood cells, platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitate.
    • Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities to maintain high standards of laboratory practice.
    • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and function.
    • Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and results obtained.
    • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulations.
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers to interpret test results and provide insights into patient care.
    • Assist in the management of blood inventory, ensuring an adequate supply of blood products for transfusion.
    • Participate in the investigation of transfusion reactions and other adverse events.
    • Provide technical expertise and support in the development and implementation of new testing methods.
    • Assist in the training and mentorship of new staff and students.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
    • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical transfusion services laboratory.
    • Strong knowledge of blood bank testing methods and laboratory techniques.
    • Proficiency in the use of laboratory instruments and computer systems.
    • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    Salary/Benefits/Shift:

    • $25-$38/hour for an MLS (DOE)
      $19-$28/hour for MLT (DOE)

    • Shift: DAYS

    • Full Benefits (401K, Health, Vision, Dental)
