Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician 3 and/or 10 plus years’ experience in the maintenance and operation of water and/or wastewater systems.
- Experience with distribution system operations including leak detection, sounding, service leaks, main breaks, utility mark-outs.
- Experience with metering operations, meter change-outs, transmitter operations/maintenance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proven skills in the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors and gear drives.
- Ability to perform manual labor and use shovels, picks and similar equipment used in manual labor operations.
- Ability to use building and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ability to use power tools, acetylene torches and sand blasting and welding equipment
- Proven skills in the operation of backhoe/front-end loader, trucks and water and wastewater line maintenance equipment utilized in water/sewer system work activities (ie: Jet Truck).
- Proven skills in carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical and mechanical repair and construction trades.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Proven skill in the operation of vehicles and equipment utilized in water/sewer system work activities.
- Skilled in the use and care of tools, machinery and equipment of the electrical and mechanical trades.
- Ability to speak and understand the English language.
- Ability to hear and communicate on telephone, 2-way radio and in person.
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to understand complaints and deal with the public in a courteous fashion.
- Ability to read and comprehend maintenance reports and documents.
- Ability to read and comprehend blue prints, schematics and equipment manufacturer’s maintenance manuals and troubleshooting guides.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Hold valid PA Class B Endorsement N (tank) with no air brake restriction Commercial Driver’s License.
- Hold a valid Class E water and Class E wastewater Operators license as issued by the PA-DEP
- Completion of 90 hours PA DEP-approved water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance training.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb and work on high structures.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment such as front loaders, farm equipment and tandem axle trucks.
- Ability to perform lifting of objects weighing as much as 100 lbs.
- Ability to work on elevated and underground structures and in confined spaces as defined by OSHA.
- Ability to perform physical functions that require the full use of both hands and feet and to remain on one’s feet while working for periods as long as 5 hours.
- Ability to bend, reach and squat to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ability to climb and descend from stairs and ladders as high as 100 feet.
