Job Description
The Medical Lab Technologist 3 performs routine and specialized laboratory tests and procedures essential for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This role requires expertise in utilizing laboratory equipment, instruments, and computer systems while applying independent judgment within established testing methods.
Key Responsibilities:
Conducts and analyzes laboratory tests, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of patient results.
Performs quality control procedures and contributes to maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies, and overall workflow.
Leads the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures, instrumentation, and technology enhancements.
Takes responsibility for major ongoing laboratory projects, including performance improvement, safety, quality control, regulatory compliance, and administrative functions.
Serves as a resource and mentor in their area of expertise, providing training and guidance to new employees.
Assists with reviewing laboratory reports, procedures, and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Provides after-hours assistance or oversees department operations in the absence of supervisory personnel.
Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, including CAP, AABB, FDA, CLIA, and JCAHO standards.
Oversees departmental proficiency testing and assists in annual evaluations of technical staff performance.
Updates and maintains technical resources and procedure manuals.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
Licensure: Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience in moderate and high-complexity testing; 4 years preferred. Leadership experience is a plus.
