A Brief Overview
Follow laboratory policies and procedures to perform high and moderate complexity testing. Perform pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory support functions. Demonstrate clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations
What You Will Do
- Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Perform and evaluate all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results.
- Maintain and demonstrate competency assessment in assigned area
- Complete all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines.
- Collaborate with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards
- Train students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members.
- Assess competency of team members as assigned.
- Lead departmental projects
- Monitor compliance to accreditation and regulatory checklist items.
- Serve as an escalation for issues that arise with team members, and internal and external clientele
- Ensure quality control and quality assurance program appropriate for the testing performed and that parameters for acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained throughout the entire testing process through pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases (TSR does not)
- Will have clinical oversight of hematology, coagulation and urinalysis

- Is an expert in one laboratory section/discipline
- Maintain knowledge of relevant checklists through active participation in inspection process
- Understand test validation methods and participate in the process
- Ability to effectively guide team members to improve job performance and departmental cooperation.
- Is an expert in one laboratory section/discipline
- Assess competency of team members as assigned.
- Has a thorough understanding of CAP regulations and checklists.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Candidate Profile Required:
- Must be at least MLT(ASCP) certified or its equivalent
- Associate's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related science.
- 3+ years experience in a highly complex laboratory setting within defined clinical disciplines i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular, Microbiology, Histology, Cytology, etc.
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
