    Lighthouse Lab Services has partnered with the premier health system in northern Virginia. We are looking for a talented Medical Laboratory Scientist with a strong background in clinical microbiology to join our client's team to help lead them through their next phase of growth and transition into a state of the art laboratory as their new Microbiology/Molecular Technical Coordinator.

    The Technical Coordinator, Microbiology and Molecular, is responsible for the oversight of the Microbiology and Molecular testing units of the Laboratory, which includes patient result reporting, quality control, quality assurance, and compliance with accreditation standards.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Serves as subject matter expert in specialties of Microbiology and Molecular, contributing to strategic planning for intradepartmental and interdepartmental initiatives.
    • Maintains technical competency in Microbiology and Molecular, ensures ongoing and documented competency of departmental and generalist staff members working in designated area of the laboratory.
    • Evaluates and implements new technologies in conjunction with leadership, intradepartmental and interdepartmental team members.
    • Performs, delegates, and/or oversees departmental training for new hires and ensures completion of training checklist.
    • Performs, delegates, and/or oversees equipment maintenance; ensures maintenance is completed on schedule and with appropriate documentation.
    • Performs, delegates, and/or oversees performance, accuracy and documentation of quality control and quality assurance programs.
    • Resolves technical and department operational problems.
    • Provides departmental support for LIS, Quality Assurance, and Education initiatives in conjunction with other team members.
    • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies to ensure continuity of service.
    • Ensures appropriate inventory of microbiology associated products across department and offers support for Microbiology and Molecular testing across hospital entities.
    • Assists in personnel scheduling.
    • Provides insight for personnel performance evaluations, goal planning, and performance improvement.
    • Participates in facility Infection Prevention and related committees; generates microbiology and molecular reports / data to present to relevant committees for the system.
    • Reviews and revises procedure manuals according accreditation standards; creates new policies and procedures when indicated; communicates policy updates to appropriate staff.
    • Ensures the Microbiology and Molecular Departments meets Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines and accrediting body requirements are at all times.

    Preferred Candidate Profile

    • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science required.
    • 5 years of clinical laboratory experience with a strong focus in Microbiology required.
    • 2 years of experience as Microbiology or General Supervisor preferred.
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent board certification required.
