Pay Rate: $85,000.00 to $95,000.00, Per Year.

Position Purpose:

The Project Engineer/Process Optimization Engineer II performs process engineering work and provides process control expertise as well as small to mid-scale project management and coordination with Operations, Maintenance, Lab, contractors, and the Client and their third parties. This position ensures optimum plant performance, compliance with water quality objectives, and achievement of production goals through the development and implementation of process control management systems for four treatment facilities.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

• Reviews and analyzes plant operating data to determine current operating conditions.
• Collection, organization, and normalization of process data.
• Issues instructions and control orders directing plant operations staff to adjust control setpoints to maintain water quality, and recommends solutions to observed problems seen through process monitoring.
• Responsible for recognizing trends in process data, and possesses the ability to present in both report and presentation format.
• Reviews reports, plans, and specifications prepared by outside consultants.
• Provides plant design, facility modifications and upgrades, process control improvements and coordinates operation, maintenance/repairs, and construction activities.
• Ensures optimum plant performance and compliance with water quality and production objectives.
• Ensures all equipment is functioning and is properly maintained in accordance with Manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Evaluates and monitors the operation, maintenance and performance of the main treatment plant and three satellite facilities, including reviewing existing system designs and operating parameters, conducting performance testing, and troubleshooting operational equipment and instrumentation problems.
• Oversee project specific work involving maintenance staff in the completion of work-related responsibilities as needed.
• Participates in cross department projects and R&D projects, as directed, and coordinates pilot activities with internal staff, the Client, consultants, and third parties as required.
• Maintains process control data management system.
• Complies with safe work plans associated with assigned tasks.
• Prepares routine process performance reports documenting treatment performance, plant production, and treatment costs.
• Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering required.
• Two (2) years experience in a full-time engineering role preferred.
• One (1) year experience in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities, or water utilities and related fields preferred.
• Membrane treatment experience is highly desired.
• Experience with process controls engineering, automation (SCADA and PLC) and controls systems engineering/programming a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Detailed knowledge of the principles, practices, and operation of water, wastewater, and/or water recycling treatment processes and related equipment.
• Knowledge of membrane filtration systems: microfiltration and reverse osmosis; has the ability to normalize data, and analyze membrane system performance.
• Knowledge of related equipment used in the water and/or wastewater industry, including microfiltration and reverse osmosis equipment.
• Understanding of environmental and aquatic chemistry, microbiology, water/wastewater unit processes and operations, membrane operations, hydraulics, solids handling, budgeting, and basic understanding of project management.
• Must be self-motivated, reliable, eager to learn, and be able to complete work with minimal direct supervision.
• Must possess superior organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize while managing several projects at a time.
• Ability to adapt to and shift priorities, and effectively perform under pressure.
• Ability to read and comprehend equipment operations and maintenance manuals.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, both verbally and in written formats.
• Ability to present data in both written and oral formats.
• Be available for before and after work hour call-outs and varying work schedules as dictated by project demands.
• Possess proficient computer skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

• Obtain EIT Certification within one year of hire.
• Water Treatment Certification, T2 or higher preferred.
• Valid CA Driver’s License required.

• Access to a personal vehicle needed for travel to and from offsite facilities as needed.
