    Evonik is proud to partner with the German American Chamber of Commerce and other local Lehigh Valley companies to offer an exciting opportunity to join the chemical technician field as an apprentice. This is an entry level position which offers the following benefits: tuition free instruction, guidance from a highly skilled mentor, ability to grow in a supportive and collaborative environment, full time employment and an opportunity to develop in demand skills for a well-paid lifelong career. The standard training period for a laboratory tester is a span of approximately 2 to 2.5 years, comprising the 4000-5000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) and the 505 hours of related technical instruction (RTI). At the end of the program, the apprentice will receive nationally recognized Journey Worker credentials.*This position is a temporary assignment working for Evonik and paid under a 3rd party agency.

    Evonik's Apprenticeship Program is designed for undergraduate students enrolled in local technical or community colleges. This program provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a chemical laboratory setting at Evonik in Allentown, PA, where you will apply the skills learned through your coursework to real-world projects. You will have the opportunity to work on meaningful projects in a chemical lab environment, apply what you are learning in school, and network with professional sin the industry.

    During your apprenticeship, you will engage in various laboratory testing functions, including but not limited to:

    • Conducting chemical analyses and experiments to support product development and quality assurance.
    • Assisting in the preparation of samples and reagents for testing.
    • Performing routine laboratory tests and documenting results with precision.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and optimize processes.
    • Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
    • Constructing laboratory setups and equipment to support experiments or pilot plant operations
    • Performing job safety analysis and other elements of the laboratory safety program.

    Examples of Technical Projects:

    • Assisting in the research and testing of new molecules for use in polyurethanes, which are used in the construction, appliance and automotive industry for insulation or cushioning.
    • Supporting process engineering activities by participating in pilot plant experiments related to new chemical processes, documenting findings, and contributing to process efficiency improvements.

    Requirements:

    • Must be pursuing an associate’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or related fields at a local technical or community college.
    • Must reside in or be able to commute to Allentown, PA.
    • Authorization to work in the US without restrictions or need for future sponsorship.
