    What you’ll do

    Position Title: SAP iXp Intern - Cloud Platform Engineer

    Location: Chicago, IL

    Expected Start Date: May 2025

    Contract Duration: 6 to 12 months

    Work Hours: 40 hours per week; Full-time

    As a Cloud Platform Engineer and member of our CloudOps team, you will be at the forefront of architecting, securely designing and running the next generation of SAP Fieldglass platforms.

    You will be part of a high-performance team which continuously improves the reliability of critical systems, working closely with development and operations teams.

    The ideal candidate will take a proactive approach, designing telemetry strategies, implementing comprehensive monitoring systems, and leveraging advanced tools to gain real-time insights and identify potential issues before they escalate.

    By partnering and collaborating with colleagues across technology teams, you will play a key role in guiding efforts around each platform’s best practices, enrolling colleagues in your designs and building high-performance, secure and distributed global platforms at scale to support our customers.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design, build, run and analyze the platform strategy for microservices and traditional 3-tier service architectures including IaaS, PaaS services for Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and SAP Cloud Platform
      • Analyze textual records of system-generated messages, events, and activities that offer detailed insight into system behavior, errors, and user actions
      • Analyze quantitative measurements providing insights into system performance, resource utilization, response times, and error rates
      • Support in the design and development of open telemetry
      • Guide research & design / PoC efforts for latest public cloud architectures
      • Engage, influence and improve our culture of learning, including participation and driving best practices and principles based on industry experience, trends and self-discovery
      • Collaborate with multiple technology teams to deliver highly-available, performant and secure platforms across multiple regions
      • Participating with OnCall rotation and support activities
      • Other duties as assigned

    What you bring

    Education: Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering and related field of study

    Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled, or recently graduated (start date must be within 6 months of graduation date) from a coding academy/bootcamp, apprenticeship, associate, bachelor’s, master’s or JD/PhD program

    • Excellent communication skills and presentation skills
    • 2+ years of experience designing & implementing production-grade services in public cloud providers
    • 2+ years of experience scripting (e.g. Bash, Python, NodeJS, etc.)
    • Familiarity with observability tools (Dynatrace, Elastic, Splunk, etc.)
    • Experienced with logging, metrics, traces, monitoring and alerting
    • Experience in public cloud IaaS and PaaS architectures, patterns and service offerings across Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and SAP Cloud Platform
    • Knowledge of container runtimes and formats such as Docker and OCI
    • Exceptional experience with Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, custom resource definitions and Kubernetes operators (CKAD, CKA or CKS is a plus)
    • Working knowledge of SAP Gardener Platform
    • Experience with CI/CD tooling (e.g. Travis, Argo), with a GitOps mindset of leveraging automation over manual interference
    • Comfortable adapting to dynamic technologies, a self-starter, and a passion for technology and cloud
    • Familiarity with DevOps, observability and agile software development roles and concepts

    Our CloudOps team runs through a Scrum model and in 2-week Sprints. We have members scattered throughout the world which instills many cultures and viewpoints to our team. We have some members who are on-site and others who are remote. Our Sprint Retrospectives provide space for open and honest opinions to help the team improve.

    Compensation Range Transparency : SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 26-47 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
