    Northrop Grumman is seeking Materials Engineers for an internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Mission Systems Sector in Sunnyvale, CA.

    The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Maritime/Land Systems and Sensors division, Marine Systems business unit. Marine Systems is a leading provider of missile launch systems, propulsion systems, and power generation systems for naval submarines and surface ships.

    The qualified candidate will shadow senior engineers and participate in:

    • Materials and test engineering support to production and R&D efforts
    • Design engineering efforts, e.g., drawing reviews, design reviews, misc. engineering meeting support, data analysis, and report authoring.
    • Mechanical testing of materials for production
    • Metallography of steels and non-metallics
    • Weld engineering support
    • Failure analysis investigations
    • Chemical and performance evaluations evaluation of organics materials
    • Evaluations of supplier materials

    Basic Qualifications

    A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

    • Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2025.
    • Be majoring in or having majored in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree
    • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2025.
    • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
    • The ability to obtain Special Access Program within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
    • Experience and/or coursework related to metallurgical engineering
    • Experience and/or coursework related to alloys and adhesives
    • Navy or other military experience
    • Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance

    At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

    Bachelor's: $20.25 - $37.25/hour

    Master's: $29.25 - $46.25/hour
