    Northrop Grumman is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join the Space Systems Intern Program. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.

    In this role, you perform duties contributing to general mission and/or space vehicle systems engineering activities. You could support and/or be responsible for developing requirements, design, integration, development or testing of air & space payloads, spacecraft buses, satellites, and manned or unmanned space systems.

    Responsibilities may also include developing requirements, design, integration, development or testing of space payloads, spacecraft buses, satellites, human-rated spacecraft, and satellite servicing vehicles. This includes generating and flowing down customer requirements to hardware and software designers, developing innovative system architectures, implementing advanced algorithms involving sophisticated signal processing and data processing techniques, and integrating and testing finished hardware and software products. Tasks may also include harness interface design, mechanical systems support, Command& Telemetry database development, and space vehicle configuration modeling. You must be knowledgeable in aerospace systems, spacecraft subsystems design, or mission operations. Advanced modeling & analyses relating to mission and technical problems may be required in support of development or mission operations teams. Candidate may be called on to assist in new business activities, such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies, and may include authoring sections for both.

    Basic Qualifications:

    A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

    • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2025
    • Be majoring in a STEM program
    • A high proficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
    • Experience in requirements analysis, modeling and simulation, verification and validation at subsystem and system level
    • Demonstrated software engineering, controls, or systems engineering leadership experience, preferably with experience in Space Flight Software or Simulation Software.
    • Ability to form strong partnerships to ensure lockstep coordination with adjacent discipline areas and program manager leadership
    • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2025
    • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.7 out of 4.0 or higher
    • Previous internship/co-op experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).
    • Experience within Space Flight Software, Simulation Software
    • Demonstrated excellence in C/C++, SVN or GIT, MS Visual Studio or Eclipse

    Intern Pay Range:

    Bachelor’s: $25.25 to $31.00per hour

    Master’s: $36.50 to $38.50 per hour

    At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
