    Position Description

Position 1: The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the development and acquisition of electro-optical systems used in the maritime environment. The incumbent will be working in a team environment and will receive tasking and direction for the team lead. The incumbent may need to multitask between various programs under the direction of his supervisor.

Technically the incumbent will develop skills needed to become a subject matter expert in the Electro-optical area. They will apply engineering skills around various subject areas to aide in the development and analysis of electro-optical systems for maritime use.

The incumbent will be required to assist in the technical analysis of electro-optical systems that are used for tactical imaging, tracking and targeting. Furthermore, the incumbent shall generate technical reports and stay astute of technology critical to this core mission area. Technology areas include detector, read out integrated circuits (ROIC), optical materials, stabilization techniques and implementation, precision pointing and navigation integration, video products and national imagery requirements, video compression and recording technologies, infrared search and track systems, performance modeling and test and verification methods for electro-optical systems.

Position 2: The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical guidance to currently fielded EO/IR systems used for tactical maritime aircraft. Incumbent will research issues and perform system modeling to provide the customer with accurate data to make acquisition decisions. Modeling of thermal signatures and the systems performance ranges will be required and should be conducted independently under the guidance of senior personnel.

The employee shall accept tasking from senior personnel but will perform tasking independently. Tasking ranges from prediction modeling to in service system investigation studies. The employee will investigate new approaches to modeling, simulation and the processing required to achieve the desired effects.

Employee will be expected to report on results and submit papers for peer reviews. Employee will provide support in the systems engineering process by providing technical input to integrated product team members within the program being supported.

Position 3: The incumbent plans the approach and design using quantitative methodologies for evaluating experimental upgrades to existing EO/IR sensors, design of EO/IR systems using COTS technology, including the integration into both fleet and test aircraft. Various analyses are performed in determining the correct fit for an EO/IR system and its intended aircraft platform. These analyses require the incumbent to have extensive experience with aircraft integration, ground and airborne testing, requirements development and a good understanding of EO/IR technology. Expertise in performance modeling of candidate systems is also required to deliver the best system to fill the fleet’s needs. Assignments are characterized by a variety of highly complex problems requiring: adaptation and application of many guidelines, precedents and engineering principles; some knowledge of related scientific and engineering fields; and frequent and extensive coordinative action with other personnel. Assignments are characterized by the following:

    • Quantitatively analyzes upgrades to EO/IR sensors.
    • Participates on a team to aid in the development of requirements, the writing of a system specification to meet these requirements, rank proposals from potential vendors and prepare the test plan, and implement it, to test a prototype system onboard a government aircraft.
    • Participates in electro-optic sensor upgrade projects using techniques or components in combinations or applications different from those previously used. Explores available sources, evaluates possible alternatives, and determines and plans the most effective approach.

    Position Duties/Responsibilities

    • You will identify and solve a wide variety of Electro Optics and Infrared complex problems with many competing objectives, variables and constraints.
    • You will deliver optimized technical solutions that are balanced to achieve required technical performance within cost, schedule and technology constraints for Electro Optics and Infrared systems.
    • You will work on varied, complex equipment systems and subsystems associated with research, innovation, or reengineering assignments and demonstrates competence and creativity in developing new concepts.
    • You will function as a project lead, program manager, team lead or member of an integrated team/group providing technical guidance to a technical workforce and meeting customer requirements for products and/or services.
