    Compensation: $2,573.72-$3,431.55 based on prior Naropa experience

    Job Summary:

    Teach one section at the Undergraduate Level of PSYB303A Psychology of the Five Elements I. The section is 3 credits offered in the spring semester of 2025 on Thursdays 3:00 – 5:45 PM.

    **Course Description:
    ** An exploration of the Law of the Five Elements and the classical medicine System of Kings, which originated in China more than five thousand years ago. The ancient Chinese viewed our body, mind, and spirit as inseparable from the world of nature around us and believed that if we observed nature closely enough, we could find the cause of any affliction of body, mind, or spirit. Through lecture and discussions, meditations, visualizations, and hands-on exercises, we work directly with our sense perceptions and the techniques of identifying color, sound, odor, and emotion as tools to perceive elemental balance or imbalance. We work directly with our current state of physical, mental, and spiritual health.

    **Job Duties & Responsibilities:
    **• Create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
    • Teach with a professional level of preparedness for the duration of a 15-week semester for 3 hours each class. For the Spring 2025 semester, this class is scheduled to meet each Thursdays 3-5:45pm.
    • Grade all assignments, provide feedback to students in a timely manner and submit final grades by the deadline established by the Registrar.
    • Offer one office hour each week plus be available to students by appointment via Zoom meetings as well as phone or email communication as needed.
    • Attend one faculty meeting per semester, as requested.
    • Prepare a course syllabus according to the Academic Affairs syllabi instructions and submit the syllabus to the Office of Academic Affairs by the established deadline.
    • Obtain permission from the copyright owner for any copyrighted material to be used in sourcebooks.
    • Complete any and all faculty and staff trainings as required by the Human Resources Office or the Office of Academic Affairs within the time period set for completion by those departments.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    **Minimum Qualifications:
    ** • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field
    • Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
    • Demonstrated familiarity with course content, professional ethics and teaching methods.
    • An understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity.
    • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-examination.
    • Minimum length of prior relevant experience required: A minimum of 1 year teaching at the University level required.
    • All job candidates must be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of and appreciation for the values of Naropa University and the capacity to provide a rigorous clinical approach as evidenced in work, communication, collaboration styles, and other general workplace behaviors.

    **Preferred Qualifications:
    ** • Master’s degree in Psychology
    • 3 years teaching at the University level preferred.
    • A strong understanding of contemplative pedagogical approaches
    • Well-developed understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity.

    Physical & Environmental Requirements:

    Faculty members in our online programs spend most of their time engaging and interacting with students through virtual meetings and online assessments. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods meeting virtually with students as well as:
    • Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
    • Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.
    • Standing or sitting for hours at a time.

    Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa’s retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

    All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
