MED TECH/Personal Care Aide-Residential Care Home
TRIO Student Support Services is a federally-funded program that provides academic, career and personal advising, tutoring, mentoring, and a wide range of activities geared towards the educational enhancement, cultural enrichment, and retention of first-generation, low-income and/or disabled students at Iona College.
Reporting to the Director of the TRIO Grant, the Student Service Advisor is responsible for managing a case load of students from time of acceptance to the college through graduation.
This position will assist with educational planning, enrollment completion, testing requirements, academic advisement, registration assistance, communication assistance, monitoring academic progress, obtaining academic support, counseling services, accommodations, career services, community-based supports and other auxiliary services deemed detrimental to student success.
This position is considered integral to facilitating the institutional strategic goal of student success as measured by through persistence, retention and completion.
Assist with the Project Director of the SSS project, providing intrusive academic, career, and personal development support to participants to improve retention, good academic standing, and graduation. Administer retention activities such Progress Grades, attendance tracking, and other means of monitoring satisfactory academic progress. Conduct one-one one advising with TRIO Scholars to address academic and personal concerns, create develop, maintain and update participants' educational action plans. Assist students with course selection, registration and academic and career planning in collaboration with their faculty and the Center for Advising and Academic Services. Motivate and encourage students through day-to-day interactions and discussions. Maintain systematic and frequent contact with participants. Consult with college personnel regarding participant needs, interventions and progress.
Assist with the development of reports, data analysis, and assessment of student engagement and success. Assist in budget tracking and reporting. Maintain relevant records to student profiles and success. Maintain current knowledge of academic requirements, institutional policies and procedures to ensure student success.
Assist students with financial aid concerns by partnering with the Office of Student Financial Services and the Office of the Registrar to ensure students have completed all necessary paperwork and met all institutional and federal deadlines. Provide one-on-one financial literacy counseling in conjunction with College Financial Services staff. Create and facilitate workshops; lead activities in a variety of topics including, but not limited to, academic, social, career, personal, financial, and cultural as well as experiential learning.
Assist in the development and execution of on-campus summer Orientation program.
Motivate and encourage students through day-to-day interactions and discussions.
Proactively collaborate with College-wide departments, faculty, tutors, and academic support staff to advocate, identify, and meet the academic needs of TRIO Scholars. Work closely with the Director and staff in future projects and tasks to ensure accurate and efficient program evaluation and expansion.
Participate in local, regional, and/or national professionally-related organizations and/or participate in professional training opportunities. Assist Colleges colleagues with events, activities and initiatives that contribute to student success effort.
Perform other duties as assigned.
