  • Responsibilities

    The Business Analyst supports the Senior (Systems) Business Analyst with developing functional system solutions to issues related to the core mission and responsibilities of Boston University's Student Financial Services organization. Key activities include, but are not limited to, processing transactions and files from BU Departments (Financial Aid & Office of Housing) and external vendors, tuition calculation, tuition remission, third party contract billing, refunds (including non-service refunds) Business Analyst will assist Senior Business Analyst in trouble shooting reported system issues and integrations, including BU Works for Student Account journal entries to post to the General Ledger.

    Major duties of this position include:

    • Develop functional and procedural documentation required for new and existing business applications and provide operational support and training on student financials system processes to end users throughout the University.
    • Create and maintain item types for all transactions posting to student financials in collaboration with the Tuition and Fee Committee, Financial Assistance, PAFO and General Accounting.
    • Assist in the development of standardized reports to assist operational staff in completing their daily, routine responsibilities. Assist colleagues with query and report development and use when necessary.
    • Analyze, test and implement new releases/upgrades with various vendors (Nelnet, Liaison, Gallagher, ECSI). Oversee tuition remission transactions to ensure that tuition waivers are processed correctly.

    Required Skills:

    • Bachelors degree in a related field
    • 5-8 years of work experience, preferably in a university or customer service environment
    • Intermediate skills utilizing Excel, including complex formulas to acquire, organize, and analyze data.
    • Experience in analyzing data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize routine tasks and ad-hoc requests.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output.
    • Ability to work (both independently and in conjunction with others) effectively and cooperatively in a small, collegial team environment.
    • Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience with analyzing detailed financial records.
    • Knowledge of University policies and procedures and federal regulations to advise customers and resolve inquiries.
