  • Responsibilities

    Boston University Arts & Sciences seeks an administrator to manage its inaugural Society of Fellows as well as mentoring and professional activities for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The Society will include up to 15 postdoctoral scholars, ten Faculty Fellows, an eight-ten person Selection Committee, and a Steering Committee, and is overseen by a Faculty Director.

     

    The administrator for the Society of Fellows is responsible for overseeing all operational and administrative components of the Society. This includes managing the call for applications (over 600 applications were received in the first year), supporting the application review by a selection committee, developing with the Faculty Fellows the activities of the postdoctoral scholars and then implementing these activities, coordinating with Departments to provide administrative support for the postdoctoral scholars, coordinating the activities of the Faculty Fellows, planning and executing Society events, drafting policies and promotional materials for the Society, and developing the assessment of processes and activities. In addition to this role for the Society, the associate will also work closely with the Associate Dean of the Graduate School to support and facilitate mentoring and professional development activities for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars outside the Society of Fellows.

     

    Specifically, the Program Associate will perform the following tasks for: The Society of Fellows

    • Develop and manage logistics, administrative systems, and procedures for Society of Fellows activities •Draft promotional and policy materials
    • Coordinate the call for nominations and selection process
    • Staff Society of Fellows events and activities, providing full administrative support from booking rooms to processing expenses to drafting agendas, etc.
    • Coordinate Society of Fellows committees (e.g. Faculty Fellows, Selection Committee)
    • Conduct, with guidance from the Faculty Director, annual assessments on Society of Fellows development and activities
    • Manage the budget for the Society of Fellows; ensure funding and stipends are distributed; track expenses; liaise with the Business Office to manage the annual budget process Graduate student and postdoctoral scholar mentoring programs
    • Develop with the Associate Dean of the Graduate School a comprehensive plan for supporting mentoring and professional development for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars
    • Support the implementation and administrative management for activities outlined in this plan
    • Provide ad hoc management and guidance to mentoring activities across Arts & Sciences as needed

    Required Skills
