    Job Description:

The Dempsey Lab in the Departments of Dermatology and Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics is looking for a Research Technician.

The primary role of this job is to aid the research team with their studies to investigate the structure, function, and regulation of proteins involved in cell signaling, epigenetics, gene regulation, and cancer. We use chemical, semi-synthetic, biophysical, and cellular approaches to elucidate mechanisms for how post-translational modifications (PTMs) regulate protein function. We are also interested in advancing new chemical strategies to investigate PTMs and protein function. Our goal is that these findings will pave the way for the rational design of new therapies for the treatment of cancer.

The Dempsey Lab is seeking a highly motivated person with exceptional organizational skills. Some scientific responsibilities may include synthesizing peptides, purifying proteins, performing biochemical assays, proteomics, and mammalian cell culture. Furthermore, the successful individual will be expected to contribute to laboratory management and organization, in addition to ensuring our compliance with safety requirements.

    Required Skills

    • Bachelors degree is required with a preference in either chemistry or biology with up to one year of related laboratory experience.
    • Previous experience with mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, including PCR, western blotting, protein expression and purification is preferred.
    • Ability to work in a team and have good time management.
    • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, in addition to keeping detailed and accurate experimental notes.

Requirements for application: Applicants must submit a CV, cover letter detailing their interest in the position and future goals.

Please note all newly hired staff and faculty will need to be in compliance with Boston University’s COVID-19 Vaccination and Booster Requirement within 30 days of date of hire. You must upload your vaccine documentation or request a medical or religious exemption (instructions).
