  • Responsibilities

    The Athletics Academic Success Coordinator II is a professional position that has a dual reporting role to the Academic Coordinator as well as to the Associate A.D. for Student Services, Academics and Compliance.  This position will provide strategic and transformational leadership in the area of academic excellence, specifically for student-athletes.  This position will focus on continuing the improvement of APR scores for high profile teams in collaboration with the Academic Coordinator and the Associate Athletics Director for Student Services, Academics and Compliance.  As part of these duties the coordinator II, works closely with student-athletes in the review of class scheduling, tutoring, or other academic skills needed to be successful.  The coordinator communicates as needed with appropriate coaching staff regarding student-athlete advising, academic, and athletic eligibility issues.  The athletics academic coordinator works cooperatively with the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance to help ensure student-athlete progress-toward-degree completion according to NCAA, Conference, and University guidelines.

    This full-time, benefits-eligible position is funded primarily through the NCAA Division I One-Time Distribution Grant.

     

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:  Bachelor's degree in related field; Master's preferred.

     

    Required Skills

    • Knowledge of effective academic practices and ability to instruct and coach students in these skills.
    • Must have excellent computer skills and proficiency with main operating systems, such as the Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and demeanor and work well with University faculty, staff, students and the public.

    Other requirements include the abilities to be:

    • flexible in one’s work assignments
    • compose, edit and proofread documents
    • communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and oral presentations
    • plan and organize one’s work
    • work independently with little or no supervision
    • work effectively in a team; maintain appropriate records
    • understand confidentiality of all information within the university

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in related field; Master's preferred
    • Must have knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility requirements 
    • Six months to one year experience in the area of student development, teaching, collegiate athletics and/or academic support services

     

    Salary Grade:  4
