Writing Consultant (Part-Time) - Writing and Tutoring Center

Writing Consultants (WCs) meet face-to-face and online with APU undergraduate, graduate, and faculty writers in order to assist in the production and revision of text. The consultant will meet with students and faculty at the Azusa Campus and/or online one-on-one and/or in group settings through workshops and appointments. The WC’s goal during each appointment is to create transferable writing skills for all participants. The WC will keep accurate records of the sessions as specified by the Director of the Writing and Tutoring Center and will assist in developing, refining, and updating consultation services, handouts, workshops, instructions, and techniques. Hours may vary depending on demand, which fluctuates during breaks, midterms, finals, etc., but this position requires a commitment of 25-29 hours per week, with at least two days per week, and most likely three, on-site at the Azusa main campus. Consultants are also assigned projects in alignment with their expertise in areas such as target language acquisition, data development, marketing, and more.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Training
* Attend meetings with the Director of the Writing Center and other staff training in writing consultation and tutoring practices, multilingual and non-traditional learner methods, and writing center procedures and record keeping tasks.
Record Keeping
* Accurately and thoroughly fill out client report forms as required.
Public Relations and Communication
* Communicate with undergraduate and graduate programs and departments regarding assignments and writing projects.
Resource Development/Maintenance
* Revision and development of training and education materials in alignment with areas of expertise.
