POSITION SUMMARY:
Working with the engineering teams; the position is responsible for sourcing industrial electrical, cabling, and other electrical items typically found in an industrial control cabinet. The Sourcing Engineer will set initial stock levels, identify best pricing, negotiate with vendors and wok with the buyers to secure materials based on the project or material requirements. This position will also work with engineering to source mechanical sheet metal and machined materials in a similar fashion.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MATERIAL MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES APPROXIMATE 40-45% OF TIME
- Perform material sourcing duties to ensure on time first article and prototype build schedule
- Work with the quoting department to ensure best solution cost
- Work with new component, sheet metal and machined item vendors to support MEAU’s solutions business. Establish contractual agreements as needed
- Work with planning and scheduling to support customer required lead times
- Maintains and update lead times periodically as provided by suppliers.
- Maintain engineering project schedule for prototyping and first article builds
- Work closely with outside contract builders for custom panel solutions
- Work with engineering and buyers to set initial min max levels based on projects and standard products forecasting provided by sales
- Enter and maintain engineering BOM’s within SAP
PURCHASING ACTIVITIES APPROXIMATE 30-40% OF TIME
- Negotiate with vendors concerning availability and pricing of products and raw materials and setting terms and conditions of sale for initial buys.
- Determine new vendor possibilities and develop or encourage vendors (new and existing) to participate in specific offerings of material as related to development.
- Interact with other departments to ensure successful completion of BOM’s and initial sourcing and buys.
- Solicit and evaluate quotations, provide buyers details required for purchase orders, and follow up supplier commitments.
- Analyze and solve complex sourcing problems with other departments (Manufacturing, Purchasing) such as conformance to quality or design requirements.
- Visit subcontract suppliers periodically as recommended by supervisor.
- Interact with subcontractors, in accordance with company procedures and policies, to ensure a satisfactory relationship for all company requirements.
- Participate in evaluation and selection of new suppliers.
ADMINISTRATIVE/SUPPORT ACTIVITIES APPROXIMATE 20-30% OF TIME
- Create BOM’s and purchase requisitions required by the buyer/ planner
- Develop and maintain various support documents and spreadsheets concerning Engineering changes, BOM’s etc.
- Maintain records and files of projects, correspondence, and vendor activities
- Compile and maintain spreadsheets and support documents as needed and assigned
- Perform other job functions as assigned.
SUPERVISORY / MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimal but some: Occasional visit to Subcontractors, Regional Offices, Distributor or Customer.
BENEFICIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Electrical or Mechanical Engineering experience and background a plus
- Knowledge of SAP
- Knowledge of ISO 9001
- Second Language (Japanese, Spanish)

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate, B.A. or B.S. in Engineering with an emphasis in Production Management or equivalent experience in industrial component sourcing.
- Proven track record in technical sourcing for industrial control panels or OEM related purchasing
- 6+ years experience working in an industrial purchasing environment, familiar with MRP systems
- Analytical/problem solving and negotiating skills.
- Basic working knowledge of PC, especially e-mail functions.
- Good telephone personality.
- Customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task, i.e. enter data while communicating on phone.
- Accurate data-entry skills.
