    We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a HEAD WOMEN’S SOCCER COACH.  Since first taking the field in 2016, the Daytona State College women’s soccer program has already established itself as one of the nation’s elite teams at the junior college level. Playing in NJCAA Division I, the Falcons have advanced to the region final in three of their first four seasons and are consistently ranked in the NJCAA National Poll. The program serves as a pipeline for 4-year programs across the country with more than 25 graduates successfully moving on to play at NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA schools. With equal focus on athletic, personal and classroom success, Daytona State is also annually listed among the top-20 academic programs by the United Soccer Coaches, and the Falcons achieved a team GPA of 3.57 during the spring 2020 semester. Daytona State boasts one of the nation’s premier junior college soccer facilities as well, and is scheduled to host the 2021 NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer National Championships.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  This position requires a master’s degree with emphasis in sports administration, physical education, sports sciences or closely related field.  A Master’s degree in counseling, education, mathematics, or science related field would be acceptable. This position also requires 3-5 years of successful coaching experience and the experience is preferred at the college level. Preference will be given to candidates with successful recruiting, camp and fund-raising experience.  Candidates must be CPR, First Aid and AED certified.  Candidates must have a valid Florida Driver’s License or be able to obtain it within three (3) months of employment.

     

    THE MINIMUM STARTING SALARY IS $48,600. Minimal additional compensation may be granted for education and/or experience exceeding the minimum stated job requirements.  This is at the sole discretion of Daytona State College.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Teach three college credit courses annually as assigned by the Dean of Athletics as a part of his/her contract. 
    • Administer a competitive program in the sport of women’s soccer in a manner that is consistent with the policies and procedures of the college, the Florida College System Activities Association, the National Junior College Athletic Association, and the Mid-Florida Conference. 
    • Recruit all prospective student-athletes for the sport of women’s soccer and assist the Athletic Director and serve the department as a leader and peer with college-wide faculty and staff. 
    • Oversee the implementation of a developmental soccer program on-campus; assist the Athletic Director with athletic housing oversight and responsibilities; supervise student-athletes during all practices, contests, and travel.
    • Provide the Athletic Director with information regarding the purchasing of equipment, scheduling, budget, and other program needs.
    • Prepare student-athletes for competition through the planning and conducting of well-organized practices and contests.
    • Keep up-to-date statistics for said sport and submit a copy to the Athletic Director at the conclusion of the sport season; assist the Athletic Director by researching, developing and implementing plans for policies, procedures, and programs to accomplish goals and improve operations; and collaborate with different departments to identify and support activities of benefit to the entire campus. 
    • He/she will also have a vision for growing a camps/clinics program to enrich the development of the soccer program within the local community and will also work collaboratively with the Athletic Director to develop a systematic program to enhance fan participation at athletic contests.
    • Review and evaluate information to ensure a strong focus on the retention of students, hosting tryouts clinics, and providing for academic needs of the cohort.
    • Work collaboratively with the athletic training and sports medicine staff to ensure that student-athletes and institutional needs are met.
    • Scout opponents via travel to various other community college games; work with student-athletes to promote good academic study habits to produce acceptable results and monitoring of academic progress; serve as liaison for area of responsibility with other College units, campus committees, task groups, and other organizations.
    • Select, train, assign, evaluate, and discipline subordinate staff; research and troubleshoot areas that need development; respond to inquiries and/or concerns from students, staff, or the general public to solve problems or discrepancies.
    • Attend or conduct staff meetings to exchange information; and attend in-service training and classes, seminars, or conferences to improve professional skills. Provide committee support by serving as requested on college-wide institutional committees
    • Arrange for the issuing and return of equipment for his/her sport.
    • Provide regional/statewide/national leadership and institutional representation in intercollegiate athletics to best represent the vision and values of Daytona State College in policy making processes such as Mid-Florida Conference (MFC); FCSAA Council for Athletic Affairs, and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
    • Assist the Athletic Director and athletic department with various sports information functions. He/she will also work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and staff to help the program achieve state performance funding measures and perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:  The successful candidate must have excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills and knowledge of discipline/sport taught.  Candidate must be familiarity with the teaching technology applicable to teaching discipline. This position requires walking, standing, stooping, jumping, and running; lifting up to 50 pounds; exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, and wet or humid conditions when the team plays or practices outdoors. This candidate must also have knowledge of computers, peripherals, and software programs such as word processing and spreadsheets.

     

    WORKING HOURS:  Normal working hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position requires evening, weekends and possibly holiday hours based on games and special activities.
