    Government Affairs & Member Relations Associate Education Finance Council - Washington, DC Government Affairs & Member Relations Associate A successful government affairs & member relations associate will contribute to the organizations mission: to support its state-based and nonprofit members capacity to expand access to higher education, facilitate student success, assist students and families in identifying their best sources of education funding, encourage wise borrowing, and advocate for and with borrowers in support of successful management of their education loan debt. The government affairs & member relations associate will: build and maintain relationships with EFC members; create and manage membership programs, including partnerships, events, committees, and best practice sharing opportunities; and support federal advocacy efforts. The government affairs & member relations associate will also provide administrative support to EFC staff. The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience. Responsibilities Government Affairs & Communications * Provide support to EFC staff to successfully execute the integrated government affairs (government relations and communications) plan. * Work with EFC staff to create advocacy documents to clarify members issues to Congress and the Administration. * Collect and analyze data from EFC members to support and inform EFCs advocacy work. * Track and provide analysis of pending legislation, Congressional members positions, and current law. * Attend congressional hearings and other industry meetings and provide updates to EFC staff and for EFC publications. * Assist the Communications Director with researching and writing EFC publications. * Assist the Communications Director with social media strategy and content development. Member Relations * Build relationships with EFC members by supporting their requests and needs for data and information, identifying the need to create new or revise existing membership services, and facilitating and supporting organizational committee activity. * Under the direction of the President, identify and recruit EFC Voting and Affiliate members. * Under the direction of the President, identify, develop, expand, negotiate, and manage exclusive EFC business partnerships. * Plan and manage EFC CXO Summit, including: soliciting member involvement, outreach to affiliates and non-members, coordinating the matching process, communications with members and participants, and event planning. * Provide support for other EFC events, including: recording registrations and developing attendee lists; preparing conference materials; staffing the registration table; and implementing post-conference activities, including surveys. * Provide support and coordination for EFC committees: drafting of agendas, presentations, and documents; organizing calls; and taking notes. * Gather and analyze data from EFC Members to publish EFC annual publications, including: Nonprofit and State-Based Education Loan Handbook, Affiliate Services Guide, and membership/Congressional Directory. Administrative * Provide support for the website, including creating and managing content. * Coordinate mass mailings to EFC membership, including: membership directories, conference materials, dues statements, and more. * Provide logistical support to the office, including: ordering office supplies, ensuring operation of the office equipment, and other tasks, as necessary. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned. Requires travel at least two times per year to EFC meetings and conferences. Experience/Skills Required * Bachelors degree.

    • Preference for at least 2 years of experience in member management, state and federal government relations, or public policy. * Experience on Capitol Hill and/or in higher education or higher education finance preferred. * Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and judgement when working within a diverse membership organization. * Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. * Strong organizational skills that reflect an ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail. * Proficient in Adobe PDF and Microsoft Office Suite, including: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
