The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources and Organizational Development is responsible for strategic leadership and management of all aspects of employee recruitment, development and experience in collaboration with colleagues on multiple campuses with the support of two Directors of Human Resources. Areas of responsibility include employee relations, recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, talent management, training and development. The AVP provides expertise and guidance in all areas of human resources and works closely with the President, Provost, Vice Presidents and Deans to support the institution’s strategic goals and the mission of the University. The AVP supervises a staff of ten distributed in multiple locations.
The AVP must possess an understanding of best practices in human resources, as well as in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion. The AVP should be an innovative leader with demonstrated skill in developing creative solutions in collaboration with University partners. This position is responsible for providing leadership in human resources and strengthening HR systems and procedures. The AVP must be technologically adept and data-driven to ensure continuous improvement and effective outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employee Relations: Implement programs that continue Stetson’s goal and tradition of being an outstanding place to work. Foster a culture based on kindness, respect, professionalism and innovation. Weave Stetson’s values of personal growth, intellectual development and global citizenship through all HR programming. Ensure that all HR policies, procedures and activities comply with federal and state law. Responsible for addressing employee relations issues and serving as liaison with the University’s legal counsel. Ensure performance management practices are effective, responsive and timely.
- Recruitment and Retention: Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting plans to ensure the University’s staffing needs are met while developing and maintaining a diverse work environment. Lead initiatives to identify, attract and retain a diverse workforce. Provide structure, process, training and resources to recruitment teams and search committees. Sponsor and promote diversity and inclusive excellence in recruitment, development, promotions, policies and communications.
- Compensation and Benefits: Ensure compensation and benefit programs are competitive, cost-effective and sustainable. Coordinate ongoing review and maintenance of programs. Proactively identify and manage market trends that may impact Stetson’s competitiveness as an employer. Promote total rewards and non-monetary compensation. Develop strong working relationship with the University’s benefits brokers and vendors. Ensure high levels of employee support. Implement and innovate employee wellness offerings.
- Professional Development and Training: Develop comprehensive professional development program to provide opportunities for staff at all levels of the organization. Programs to include effective onboarding and orientation, manager and supervisory development, training on legal requirements and responsibilities, and employee skill development
- Systems Improvement: Ensure HR staff utilizes technology for greater efficiency, effectiveness and customer satisfaction
- Student Employment: Oversee University’s Student Employment program. Ensure SE policies and procedures are in compliance and alignment with overall personnel policy
- Chair Strategic Staffing Committee and Benefits Advisory Committee
- Serve as co-chair and ex-officio member of the Staff Advisory Committee
- Serve as Deputy Title IX coordinator for employees
- Performs other site and position specific functions as assigned
ROUTINE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises human resources staff
- Manages HR budgets and oversees the University’s benefits budget
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred

Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or related field with a master’s degree preferred
- SPHR or SHRM-SCP professional certification desired
- A minimum of (10) years of progressive and successful leadership experience within a college or university system managing multiple sites
- Comprehensive expertise in all areas of human resources
