  • Responsibilities

    PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

    Develops, and facilitates broad and impactful initiatives that affect student professional development, student employment, and graduate employment.  Represents the Office of Career and Professional Development and the College of Law in a range of venues, forums, and milieu, speaking as a professional within the Professional and Career Development discipline and profession.  Generates programs, materials, processes, practices, that lead to solid and productive employer, student, graduate, faculty, and prospective student connections and relationships.  Seeks out and provides engagement opportunities to students, graduates, and alumni to inform, empower, and supply the tools needed to achieve individual career success.  Ensures that Employer needs and Graduate offerings connect.  Informs departmental discussions and priorities and works with supervisor in creating, compiling and assembling resources, data, and tools. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists supervisor and OCPD team in managing, prioritizing, organizing, and executing broad, deep, and diverse work and workloads and in establishing a remarkable and highly desirable Stetson Law Career and Professional Development brand in a range of markets and geographic locations.
    • Builds coaching strength, coaches and motivates students and graduates to achieve career goals.  Teaches students to use effective tools, overcome individual barriers to success, and encourages student participation in OCPD events.
    • Originates, develops and leads interactive workshops, seminars, and group meetings to build student professional, career, and job acquisition skills and competencies, and to identify opportunities to serve student and alumni career needs. 
    • Authors, develops, organizes, and updates curriculum materials including workbooks videos, webinars, and other materials.
    • In response to identified demand, creates, plans, and presents novel, compelling, and attractive contemporary programming, using external resources (alums and experts) designed to appeal to the targeted client populations.
    • Provides backup spreadsheet data tracking support to the Associate Director—Data and Compliance and assists in gathering and tracking graduate information and employment data and trends on students/alumni. 
    • Stays abreast of trends and changes in the dynamic legal labor market through meetings with professional organizations, NALP events, and Bar section meetings.  Speaks as a professional at these forums, upon request.  Seeks and undertakes leadership roles within said organizations.
    • Engages employers, increasing employer postings and supporting on campus interviews; whenever possible introduces new and geographically diverse employers to the Stetson community and provides leads to Recruiting staff and Assistant Dean.
    • Ensures that employer standards are understood and met and communicated regularly to students.
    • Seeks out and develops connections and relationships that lead to opportunities for diverse student and alumni populations.
    • Builds, maintains and continues to develop technological platforms for the delivery of student and alumni empowerment opportunities including the use of Symplicity and social media.
    • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with faculty, as well as other staff departments and leaders.
    • Engages alumni as well as the broader community of lawyers and expands the Stetson network through participation in national conferences, organized alumni events, and through professional organization involvement.
    • Assembles Faculty, Alumni, Inter-departmental resources (as necessary)
    • Originates career and professional development curriculum and programming
    • May be assigned to serve and participate on committees.
    • Collaborates with faculty, staff and students with programming and events, when needed.
    • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Required Skills

    B.A./B.S. degree required. Juris Doctor or master’s degree preferred. A broad knowledge of the legal profession, 3 to 5 years combined or mixed experience in law practice, career counseling, professional development, student or lawyer career or professional development services or recruitment, preferably in a legal setting.  Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to student services are necessary and strong written and oral communication skills are required. Ability and desire to work as part of a high functioning team, and to lead the team on occasions in specific activities.  Flexibility to work frequently outside of regular office hours; frequent travel required. Works to build an environment that promotes and facilitates the success of Diversity and Inclusive Excellence.
