  • Responsibilities

    TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • To teach courses as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
    • To design and teach those courses in accordance with the established course descriptions, the School of Law’s Academic Handbook, supplementary instructions and guidelines given by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the applicable accrediting standards.
    • To select required and recommended texts and to design and create any needed supplementary course materials.
    • To prepare and disseminate a syllabus for each course that meets the School of Law’s guidelines and the applicable accrediting standards and that includes an attendance policy, the instructor’s contact information, the methods of formative and summative assessment, the method by which grades in the course will be determined, and sufficient assigned work outside of class to meet the School of Law’s accrediting standards.
    • To hold office hours outside of class in accordance with standards set by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and generally to be available to students outside of class by email or phone.
    • To participate in the faculty’s exchange of proctoring duties for examinations.
    • To grade examinations and papers, and to do so with reference to any grading policies that the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs may establish from time to time.
    • To submit grades by the deadlines established by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
    • To conduct post-exam conferences with students.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A Juris Doctor degree.
    • Admission to the bar of a state of the United States or the District of Columbia.
    • Good standing in all jurisdictions where the person is admitted to practice law.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook email and Word.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the School of Law’s staff, including the Coordinator of Law Academic Programs, the members of the Faculty Support Services group, and the members of the Law Registrar’s Office.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach
    • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other business machines efficiently
    • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
    • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
    • Work is primarily indoors, but requires incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus
    • Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by office machines
