KIPP NYC is training up the next generation of teachers through an intensive one-year residency experience, where dedicated aspiring educators spend a year at a high-performing KIPP school while pursuing a masters degree (MAT) from Relay Graduate School of Education, an innovative teacher preparation program as cited by the White House. KIPP NYC fully commits to the growth and development of each Empire Fellow. Our explicit goal is that, upon successful completion of the residency year, each Empire Fellow is hired into a full-time teaching role at a KIPP NYC school for a minimum of two years. About the Empire Fellows Program In conjunction with Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay GSE), the Empire Fellows program offers aspiring K-12 teachers a unique opportunity to receive high-quality training at a KIPP NYC school. Individuals are paired with a high-performing KIPP teacher who serves as a mentor and advisor for the entire school year. Additionally, Empire Fellows receive extensive weekly training and deliberate practice through Relay GSE, allowing for a structured, supportive and more sustainable on-ramp into the teaching profession. KIPP NYC fully commits to the growth and development of each Empire Fellow, with the explicit goal that upon successful completion of the residency year, each Empire Fellow is hired into a full-time teaching role in their second year at KIPP NYC school while completing their Master in the Art of Teaching (MAT) degree. This program is best suited for individuals who are passionate and committed to teaching as a long-term career path but who do not have any full-time teaching experience yet. In order to be admitted to this program, an individual must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0or higher. About KIPP NYC KIPP NYC is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepares students for success in college and life. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx. Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond and in so doing, to prove what is possible in for all students. Today, our New York City network is comprised of five elementary schools, five middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Through College, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. We are also excited to be opening two new schools in August 2018 KIPP Freedom Elementary School and KIPP Freedom Middle School! ------------ Why Become an Empire Fellow? ------------ Duties and Responsibilities Empire Fellows will assume the same schedule as a full-time KIPP NYC teacher. Duties and responsibilities include: * Developing teaching skills through regular feedback and coaching. * Providing individual or small group instruction for students. * Leading or co-facilitating an advisory. * Committing to constant professional and personal growth through working closely with a team of teachers. * Constantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleagues. * Modeling the schools values in all communications with students, families, and staff. Qualifications * High level of organization and professionalism. * Bachelors degree with a 3.0 GPAor higher (if currently in school, expected Bachelors degree by June 2018). * Zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor. * A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture. * Openness to feedback and willingness to constantly reflect, improve and learn. * Desire and commitment to teach in a K-12 setting for at least three years after the first year of the residency.
