This is a part-time role on a rotation across the academic year. The role of the Lifeguard is to supervise and monitor activities in the water, pool decks, and ancillary areas of the pool facilities to ensure the safety of all. The Lifeguard must learn, explain, and enforce safe swimming programs and pool policies, regulations, and rules. This person must be willing and able to perform rescues and administer first aid, CPR, and AED as needed.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES:
Experience in a residential or educational setting strongly preferred.
Ability and desire to work during hours when students are not in class, including evenings and weekends.
Be a motivated and flexible team player that is ready to work towards the good of the community.
Over eighteen years of age.
Minimum requirement of six months of Lifeguard experience at facilities in California.
20/20 Corrected Vision AND 20/40 Uncorrected Vision. Candidates who have LASIK vision correction surgery must have completed a 6-month stabilization period, and candidates who have RK or PRK vision correction surgery must have completed a 12-month stabilization period before being medically eligible for this position.
Knowledge of principles and techniques of lifeguarding, including lifesaving methods and procedures.
Up-to-date Lifeguard Certification.
Operational characteristics of water rescue safety equipment and devices.
Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull materials and equipment, and swim while wearing an appropriate uniform. Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations.
Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides aquatics safety and supervision for all: monitors activities in the water, pool decks, and ancillary areas of facilities to prevent accidents, and to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Implements and monitors school policies and procedures and enforces school regulations.
Cautions students regarding unsafe activities and reports concerns as appropriate according to school policy.
Maintain order and safety in a crowded and noisy environment.
React to and handle swimmer rescue and medical emergencies in a safe and effective manner.
Respond and perform water rescues, First Aid and/or CPR appropriately, following aquatic emergency action procedure (EAP) protocol.
Inspects and maintains swimming and pool equipment for functionality, ensures proper placement and availability in the pool area, and recommends maintenance and repair as needed.
Maintains logs and records of activities.
Participates in required training sessions, including safety drills and other emergency procedures.
Assists with patron safety by preventing and responding to emergencies, enforcing all facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
To adhere to the pool rules and facility rules in a fair and equitable manner and explain the rationale for the rule(s) when needed.
Assist with wheelchairs, walkers, and any other mobility aids.
Be on time and cover all assigned hours, arriving fully prepared, and ready to guard. If unable to work, the lifeguard will inform the relevant manager 24 hours in advance.
Maintain superior skill level(s) for the certifications that you possess through self-practice, team audits/practice, and scheduled in-service trainings.
Attend staff and evaluation meetings as requested.
WORKING HOURS:
The hours can be a bit flexible based upon lifeguard availability. We are looking for lifeguard availability specifically for Fridays (at/after 3:30pm, when school gets out), Saturday/Sunday afternoons, and occasional special events and/or holidays.
SALARY:
The anticipated hiring range of this position is $20-35 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
