Instructors in the Division of Public Health Practice provide instruction in the discipline he or she has specific training and competence. The instructor promotes successful student learning is expected to plan, organize, and teach in a manner that supports the program’s vision, mission, goals, and values. Instructors perform related administrative duties as assigned.
• Develops syllabi that clearly outline the course requirements, public health competencies, and objectives. • Prepares class sessions and assignments to help students grasp course content and how it integrates with overall student learning outcomes for the course. • Teaches courses according to the program descriptions and in accordance with defined course competencies and outcomes. • Creates a learning environment for the capstone projects that encourages student involvement and participation. • Documents students’ participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade. • Submits course grades to the Registrar by the assigned date. • When required, functions as an official academic advisor, counseling students about course, academic sequences, and program issues. • Is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success, life goals, and career development. • Maintains and disseminates current information pertaining to services available to students throughout the Division and School • Participates in and contributes to curriculum development by planning, developing, and evaluating new and existing courses and curriculum. • Coordinates and participates in program evaluation to assess instruction and curricular effectiveness, research activities, post-graduation activities, alumni perceptions, and community engagement and service. • Participates in the development and implementation of academic policies, guiding principles, objectives and functions in accordance with the philosophy of the Division • Participates in faculty meetings and staff meetings, serves on committees, and participates in other activities such Research Day, Convocation, and Commencement Exercises. • Is familiar with and maintains behavior and actions consistent with school policies. • Continues professional development and growth according to professional needs • Represents the Division positively to prospective students and supporters. • Performs other administrative responsibilities requested by supervisor.
