NEA Research Summer 2019 Intern (Stipend, 1 Position) (291497-801) Tracking Code 291497-801 Job Description NEA is seeking individuals interested in participating in the NEASummer 2019 internship session, which will begin on June 11, 2019 and will end on or before August 15, 2019. Interns who receive a stipend may intern up to a maximum of twenty (20) hours a week. The NEA Internship Program provides interns with training, learning opportunities, and educational experiences through a variety of rich and substantive programmatic experiences that support quality public education. These experiences may include conducting research; data analysis; writing, editing, using Internet applications and social media; participating in and assisting with meetings and policy forums; visits to Capitol Hill; and other appropriate program-related activities. The internships range from six weeks to a full semester. Position Summary The NEA partners with institutions of higher education and other organizations to identify interns - generally juniors, seniors, recent college graduates (up to 18 months) or graduate students - who are interested in public education policy and education issues. Students pursuing degrees in education (with a focus on research or policy) or the social sciences (e.g., sociology, political science, economics, and psychology) and related disciplines such as public policy and applied statistics are encouraged to apply. Position Emphasis: This position supports NEAs strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by participating in internship opportunities in departments within the Research department of the Center for Great Public Schools. Description of Proposed Intern Assignment(s) : Interns will work on a variety of research projects, particularly compiling and checking quantitative data and synthesizing scholarly literature on key education topics. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in meetings on the development of data dashboards and a knowledge base. Expected skills and opportunities for development that the intern may obtain from this educational experience. Interns will gain experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and knowledge of key content areas in education research.
