    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  This position requires a Master’s Degree with a business focus and a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline. Doctoral Degree preferred. Teaching experience is required. Preference will be given to those candidates who have taught online courses.   Work experience at the management level outside of academia is preferred. Candidate must be student centered and focused on student learning outcomes.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

    • Teach courses at assigned locations in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.
    • Organize class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the course.
    • Provide input and work with other faculty and staff to review, produce and/ or select course-related materials.
    • Attend program, school, and college meetings as requested or required.

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and instruction.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of state college students.
    • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
    • Strong computer skills, ability to navigate in a Windows environment, and knowledge to operate within a Learning Management System.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    1. Nursing Degree (A.D., Diploma, BSN, etc.) from an accredited School of Nursing.
    2. BSN preferred.
    3. Licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Ohio.
    4. General ED nursing experience preferred.
    5. PALS, ACLS certification preferred or obtained within 6 months of hire.
    6. Excellent clinical skills in delivery of care.
    7. Excellent interpersonal skills/ability to work well with people projecting a positive image for the Hospital.
    8. Excellent organizational, communication and detail skills.
    9. Ability to remain calm and function well in stressful situations, work independently and prioritize work.
    10. Ability to lift moderate weights.

     

     

    CORE COMPETENCIES FOR THE POSITION

     

    • Maintains nursing skills necessary to care for a full spectrum of the emergency patient population from minor injuries to trauma and multisystem failure.
    • Performs a physical, psychosocial and spiritual assessment and re-assessment on all assigned patients as needed.
    • Encourages patient and family participation in the plan of care.
    • Demonstrates ability to function effectively in Hazmat, trauma, and emergency preparedness codes, may be cross trained to function in Observation Unit as needed.
    • Correctly interprets cardiac rhythm strips.
    • Collaborates with other members of the health care team when planning care & developing the plan of care.
    • Assumes the role of designated Pod Leader when assigned. The Pod Leader will facilitate and direct appropriate patient placement through collaboration with triage personnel and department leadership.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse and suicidal ideation and follows through according to established policy.
    • Identifies and considers physical, spiritual, psychosocial, environmental needs, and cultural beliefs incorporating them into the plan of care and discharge plan.
    • Assesses status of Advanced Directives and Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) wishes, follows through according to established policy.
    • Acts as advocate and liaison between patients and the community resources pertinent to their specific need.
    • Communicates clearly with patients, physicians and ancillary departments and exhibits appropriate follow-up to prevent service delays.
    • Assumes the role of designated Pod Leader when assigned. The Pod Leader will facilitate and direct appropriate patient placement through collaboration with triage personnel and department leadership.
    • Serves as a Member of the Union Hospital PSC Team
    • Completion of required continuing education as specified in PSC Policy “Union Hospital Stroke Team Plan” to maintain/increase knowledge and competency of stroke care
    • Knowledgeable and able to recognize the signs and symptoms of Stroke and the immediate need of physician notification
    • Knowledgeable of how to activate a Stroke Alert
    • Knowledgeable and able to perform a Massey bedside swallow evaluation prior to oral intake and care for patient’s swallowing challenges
    • Knowledgeable and competently assesses patients utilizing the NIH Stroke scale
    • Knowledgeable of Telemedicine Stroke process
    • Knowledgeable and competent with the administration of tPA
    • Knowledgeable and competent with the care of a patient who has been administered tPA
