  • Responsibilities

    The Raices Latinas Program at Boston University School of Theology (BU STH) seeks a postdoctoral associate to serve as the lead program researcher for two grant projects: “Accompanying Immigrant Christian Families Across Generations” and “Nurturing Immigrant Children’s’ Faith Experiences En Familia program (En Familia).” The postdoc will develop partnerships with congregations, study them, and develop context-appropriate resources to be used and distributed for the purpose of supporting Christian immigrant churches and families. The fellow will also teach courses in their area of expertise at BU STH. This is four year position (with the option of a five-year) with an expected start on February 1, 2025. The postdoctoral associate will work closely with the grant administrator and will respond as well as receive mentoring from a faculty person who will be the grant general consultant.

    Responsibilities
    • Coordinate the gathering and organizing of all the reports/data related to program implementation.
    • Maintain good communication with and detailed records of each church related to the program.
    • Develop a research agenda aligned with the goals of the grant projects.
    • Provide the logistical support for all the research components of the grants in coordination with STH students.
    • Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and in other media.
    • Teach a masters-level course per year related to their research and aligned with the mission and curricula of the School of Theology.
    • Organize academic events in coordination with different programs at the School of Theology.
    • Design a plan for the development and writing of children’s curriculum contextual to immigrant churches and their experience within the Christian faith.
    • Collaborate with the grant manager and the grant general consultant in the administrative tasks of the grants.
    • Coordinate, train, and supervise student research assistants.
    • Maintain good records of program design, implementation, and adaptations.
    • Represent these programs at events and conferences upon request.
    • Provide information and updates on implementation and research for partners (churches, other organizations, institutions of higher education).

    Required Skills

    Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in hand by May 2025. Areas of specialization include practical theology, congregational studies, sociology of religion and cultural studies. The ideal candidate will be fully immersed in the congregational life of immigrant churches and work to bridge the church and the academy.
