  • Responsibilities

    The STAR **** Operations Technician is responsible for statewide motorcycle safety training fleet readiness, and regional site support, maintenance of all STAR vehicles (motorcycles, truck, etc.) as well as inventory of parts and supplies.

    The STAR Operations Technician also assists the Operations Manager with communications, marketing, and public relations relating to vendors and dealerships. This position also works in conjunction with the Idaho Transportation Department and third-party motorcycle skills testers and ensures readiness of testing sites.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Administration:

    • Ensure that statewide training sites are fully prepared for each and every class, including motorcycles, parts, course supplies, painted range markings on parking lots, asphalt repair, and communication with site sponsors
    • Perform maintenance of main office facility as needed to ensure compliance with safety and risk management standards
    • Travel statewide to assist Instructors in the field, maintain motorcycle training and testing site readiness, network with motorcycle dealers, motorcycle clubs, training and testing site sponsors, and other stakeholders.
    • Maintain STAR fleet of over 160+ motorcycles, including basic motorcycle maintenance and repair and transporting motorcycles throughout the state as necessary
    • Maintain STAR -owned truck and trailers
    • Assist in updating and maintaining forms and support materials used for the rider training programs. Chronicle changes and verify that current version(s) are integrated at all training locations
    • Maintain service records for the purpose of data collection, interpretation, and evaluation
    • Assist ITD preparation of testing sites
    • Ensure that testing sites are maintained and painted
    • Coordinate with the Operations Manager as required or requested
    • Produce reports as specified by the Operations Manager
    • Attend staff meetings, Advisory Committee, and other meetings as requested or assigned
    • Carry a personal cell phone for business use
    • Be on-call on weekends as assigned
    • Assist other STAR Program staff as requested
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Instruction:

    • Qualify for and maintain STAR certifications and professional proficiency for (at a minimum) Basic Rider Training

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar repair technician position maintaining vehicles and filling out work orders in an unsupervised environment
    • Knowledge of basic motorcycle repair and maintenance
    • Leadership or supervisory experience
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Organizational ability: must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Strong communication skills, including listening, oral and written, clear, communication; confronting difficult issues, identifying alternatives, and deciding on a course of action
    • Ability to successfully and positively interact with the general public and program personnel to effectively facilitate and maintain strong and productive working relationships
    • Have, and maintain, a good driving record
    • Must be a licensed motorcyclist who owns and operates a motorcycle on a regular basis
    • Must hold Idaho STAR Motorcycle Safety Instructor certification, or equivalent, or be eligible for admission to STAR ’s Instructor training program
    • Able to ride and push/move motorcycles of all sizes
    • Experience in safely hitching, loading, and towing trailers of various sizes, up to 40’

    ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • Certified motorcycle technical
    • Knowledge of advanced motorcycle repair and maintenance
    • Hold a CDL
    • Knowledge of CSI, ITD, CTE, and Idaho STAR rules and regulations/policies and procedures to ensure program compliance with Idaho Code

    Required

    • Bachelors’ degree in Human Factors Engineering, Usability Engineering, or other scientific discipline, preferably systems, electrical, mechanical, or software.
    • 5+ years of engineering experience.
    • 3-5 years new product development product usability
    • 3+ years exposure to medical device quality systems.
    • Demonstrated knowledge skills and abilities in integrating human factors through the system engineering lifecycle.
    • Demonstrated ability to clearly and accurately translate needs and requirements
    • Experience with software and hardware user interface design.
    • Experience performing Risk Assessment and trade-off analysis throughout the lifecycle of a product.
    • Experience working with physicians and customers in a medical device product development role
    • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to human factors engineering in the medical device industry (e.g., FDA, ISO 62366).
    • Writing Usability engineering reports for FDA and EU submission.
    • Ability to grow productive, trusting, and open relationships with a wide variety of constituencies.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interface with customers in a professional manner.
    • High degree of organizational skills and high attention to detail.
    • Strong initiative and passion about new technologies with high energy.

    Preferred

    • Graduate degree in Human Factors Engineering, Usability Engineering, or another relevant scientific discipline.
    • Board certification in Human Factors or Professional Ergonomics.
    • 5+ years systems engineering experience
    • Awareness and working knowledge of system-level constraints in all disciplines, including mechanical, electrical and software
    • Voice-of-customer experience and fluency with clinical radiology terminology.

    • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team.
