    Job Description

    In 2017, SA established the School Management Office (SMO) to operationalize and execute various schooling functions in support of the day-to-day management of our network of schools and serve as an intermediary between the Network and our network of schools.

    Representative services provided by the SMO include the planning and management of school leadership deliverables that span people management, classroom management, instructional management. parental joy and investment, data reporting and analysis, communication and calendar management, scholar flow, and management of our school design. The School Management Office is also responsible for oversight of our Network-wide special education program: Sprint .

    Reporting to the Lead, Sprint, the Senior Specialist, Network Sprint is responsible for overseeing and executing training programs designed to enhance the effectiveness of school-based special education teams. This role will focus on building the capacity of support staff to effectively implement individualized education programs (IEPs), provide inclusive learning environments, and support students with diverse learning needs. The Senior Specialist will collaborate with school based support staff to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, evidence-based special education practices across the district.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Develop and Implement Training Programs: Design, develop, and deliver training sessions for school based special education teams. Focus on fostering knowledge and skills related to identifying students for special education referrals and staying within special education compliance.

    • Needs Assessment: Conduct regular needs assessments with school-based teams to identify areas for improvement and to tailor training programs accordingly. Ensure that all training materials are relevant and aligned with district goals, state standards, and best practices.

    • Facilitate Professional Development: Lead workshops, webinars, and in-person training sessions to enhance the skills of special education staff, including how to execute their roles effectively in the school building, manage adults around deliverables, use assistive technology (when necessary), and assess student progress to modify IEP recommendations as necessary.

    • Support and Coaching: Provide ongoing support and coaching to school teams, including school visits and follow-up consultations, to ensure that the training is being implemented successfully and adapted to meet the needs of students.

    • Collaboration: Work closely with network partners (Instructional Services, Operations, Ed Institute, School Quality Management Office) to ensure a coordinated approach to professional development and resource allocation for special education teams.

    • Compliance and Best Practices: Ensure that all training complies with state and federal regulations, including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and incorporates the latest best practices in special education.

    • Monitor and Evaluate: Track and assess the impact of training programs, gather feedback from participants, and make improvements to training approaches as necessary. Provide reports and updates on training effectiveness to network leadership. Overarching management and accountability for all Sprint initiatives and KPIs

    • Resource Development: Create and distribute instructional materials, toolkits, and resources that can be used by school teams to support special education practices, such as behavior intervention plans, communication strategies, and accommodations.

    A successful applicant will have the following experiences and education:

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

    • Certification in Special Education (or equivalent)

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in special education or as a special education teacher, with demonstrated leadership experience

    • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local special education laws and policies (e.g., IDEA, Section 504)

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders in training and professional development activities

    • Ability to assess needs and design tailored training programs for a wide range of special education roles

    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

    Preferred Qualifications & Traits

    • Experience with special education systems within New York City preferred

    • Experience as a Special Education Coordinator or a similar leadership position

    • Experience in data-driven decision-making and program evaluation

    • Experience with root-cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies

    Compensation Range
    Annual Salary: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00
